5G SIM Only Deals
If you already have a 5G smartphone that you’d like to use on O2, you can get a 5G-ready SIM-only deal from £13/month.
O2 doesn’t charge anything extra for access to 5G on their SIM cards. However, you’ll need to choose the option during the checkout process to tell them you have a 5G-ready device to get a 5G SIM card. Unless you do this, they’ll send you a 4G SIM card which won’t have access to the faster 5G network.
The following table shows O2’s SIM-only deals with 5G coverage:

All of O2’s 5G SIM cards include 6 months of free Disney+ (or a different O2 Extra if you prefer). This makes it a good value way of getting access to Disney+ and staying entertained across multiple devices.
O2 also offers eSIM plans for use on their network (e.g. for dual-SIM on the iPhone and on Samsung Galaxy phones). However, their eSIM plans are currently restricted to 4G coverage – you won’t have access to 5G coverage when using an eSIM on O2.
5G Download Speeds
O2 says you should be able to get an average download speed of around 150Mbps on their 5G network in the UK. This makes their 5G network roughly five times faster than the 4G network.
In some cases, it might be possible to get peak download speeds of up to 1,000Mbps if you’re in an area with good 5G coverage and if there aren’t too many other people using O2’s network at the same time.
According to an Ookla speed test analysis carried out in Q3 2020, O2’s 5G mobile network in London delivered an average download speed of 181Mbps and an average upload speed of 15Mbps.
5G Network Bands
In the UK, O2’s 5G network uses band n78 5G spectrum (3500MHz). If you’re using a 5G phone that was purchased outside the UK, you should check to make sure it supports 5G coverage in this band.
If you’re unable to get 5G coverage in your area, O2 also offers 99% population coverage on 4G, 3G and 2G. This uses the following bands and frequencies:
O2 Coverage Type | Supported Bands & Frequencies |
