What is CityFibre Broadband?

In the UK, CityFibre is a full fibre infrastructure provider. So far, they’ve built a full fibre network (i.e. laid cables in the streets), covering around 2 million homes (as of 2022). Their main competitors are Openreach and Virgin Media, both of which also lay their own full fibre cables to homes across the UK.

If you’re living at an address that’s connected to the CityFibre network, you’ll be able to get full fibre broadband with speeds of up to 900Mbps (both for downloads & uploads). You can also access exclusive CityFibre-only deals, often with lower prices than on comparable full fibre plans elsewhere.

At present, you can order full fibre broadband from TalkTalk and Vodafone, along with a number of smaller providers. As CityFibre is only responsible for the underlying network, it isn’t possible to order a broadband service directly from them.

According to CityFibre, they’re aiming to roll out their full fibre network to cover 8 million homes across 285 locations by 2025. This makes them the UK’s third-largest network, behind Openreach (who provide the underlying network for BT Full Fibre, EE Full Fibre, Sky Full Fibre and more) and Virgin Media. Compared to the Openreach-based services, plans are often cheaper and will usually come with faster upload speeds.

Best CityFibre Broadband Deals

At present, Vodafone is our recommended provider if you’re looking for a full fibre service on the CityFibre network.

Vodafone

If you’re looking for the best full fibre experience at a very competitive price point, consider Vodafone’s Full Fibre 900 broadband. This gives you an average speed of 910Mbps (both for downloads and uploads). It’s also available for just £30/month if you’re living in a CityFibre area (prices are higher in other areas).

If you’re looking for a little more, you can upgrade this to Vodafone’s Pro Full Fibre 900 for £40/month. This comes with Super WiFi (giving you a guaranteed wi-fi signal in every room of your home) and a 4G-based broadband backup service. You’ll also get 12 months of inclusive Norton Security Premium anti-virus.

If you’re looking for a cheaper plan on the CityFibre network, Vodafone also offers a range of other full fibre plans. These start from just £24/month if you’re living in a CityFibre area.

Other Providers

At present, TalkTalk and Vodafone are the main providers of full fibre (FTTP) broadband on the CityFibre network.

Alongside them, there are a number of smaller providers like Giganet and Zen Internet. Both of them usually have higher prices than on TalkTalk and Vodafone. However, as smaller firms, you might get better customer service from them. There are also a number of other providers, depending on your location and whether you’re using the connection for home or business use.

CityFibre Coverage

At present, the CityFibre network covers around 2 million UK homes. This is equivalent to about 8% of all UK homes.

To see whether a CityFibre service is available at your address, it’s best to enter your postcode on the TalkTalk and Vodafone websites. This will tell you whether a full fibre service is available to order at your address, and the plans that are currently available to you.

It’s also possible to check your postcode directly on the CityFibre website. This contains a bit more information about their future full fibre rollout plans. However, you’ll need to refer back to your broadband provider’s website (e.g. TalkTalk or Vodafone) to see the exact plans and pricing available where you live.

If you’re not able to get full fibre on the CityFibre network, you might be able to get full fibre (FTTP) broadband from other providers (e.g. on the Openreach network).
