Both of Lebara Mobile’s unlimited data plans are available with no contract on a one-month rolling basis. This means you can change or cancel your plan at any time. There’s also no credit check required as the Lebara Mobile service works on a pre-paid basis.

When you initially sign up for the plan, it’ll be configured to automatically renew itself every month. To benefit from the 3 months half price offer, you’ll need to keep the auto renewal setting switched on for the first three months.

After the first three months, you can change it to a different plan if you like. Alternatively, you can top-up your SIM card manually (e.g. in-store, online or with a voucher), buying the relevant unlimited data plan as required from your top-up credit:

  • For the £25 unlimited data plan (with 100 international minutes), text R7 to 38885.
  • For the £30 unlimited data plan (with unlimited international minutes), text R8 to 38885.

Fair Usage Policy

According to the Lebara Mobile website, they don’t have any hidden caps for unlimited data in the UK. The only exceptions are made for fraudulent usage and their general terms and conditions:

Where Unlimited data is included in a plan allowance, there is no data cap, subject to fraud exceptions. All general T&C will apply.

The general terms and conditions for the Lebara Mobile service say, amongst other things, that the SIM card is for your “private and personal use” only.

If you’re using your Lebara Mobile SIM card abroad, you’ll be subject to Lebara Mobile’s fair usage limit for roaming. On the £25 unlimited data plan, this allows you to use up to 15.7GB of data per month in Europe. On the £30 unlimited data plan, the fair usage limit is 18.8GB per month in Europe. In addition, both SIM cards will allow you to roam at no extra cost in India, subject a fair use limit of 10GB per month.

Download Speeds

On Lebara Mobile’s unlimited data plans, you’ll get access to 4G & 5G speeds on the Vodafone network.

According to the Lebara Mobile website, the average download speed for customers using 4G on their service is “over 20Mbps”. This broadly aligns with the average 4G download speed of 23-35Mbps that Vodafone advertises to their own customers.

Customers with a 5G phone and with 5G coverage in their area should be able to access even faster speeds with Lebara Mobile’s 5G service. Vodafone says you’ll normally be able to get download speeds of 150-200Mbps when you’re connected to 5G.

Comparison to Alternatives

On Lebara Mobile, you’ll get unlimited data with 5G coverage from Vodafone. This is available without the need for a contract or credit check. In the following section, we’ll look at your alternative options.

Coverage

2G, 3G & 4G Coverage

In the UK, Lebara Mobile uses Vodafone as their network coverage provider. This means you’ll get 99% population coverage on Vodafone’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

Before you sign up to join Lebara Mobile, it’s worth double-checking the coverage in your area. You can do this by entering your postcode on Vodafone’s online coverage map:

Check Lebara Coverage (via vodafone.co.uk) →

For more information, see our guide to the coverage on Lebara Mobile.

5G Coverage

If you’re using a 5G-ready phone, you’ll also be able to access 5G coverage in 100 UK towns & cities. This gives you access to faster download speeds, more network capacity and lower amounts of latency.

Lebara Mobile made their 5G service available to customers in August 2021. There’s no extra cost for using 5G on Lebara but you’ll need to make sure you have a 5G-ready device.

Tethering & Personal Hotspot

Tethering or personal hotspot refers to the process of sharing your smartphone’s internet connection with another device (e.g. with your laptop or tablet). It’s often used as a convenient way to get access to mobile broadband without needing to carry around a separate device and plan.

On Lebara Mobile’s unlimited data plan, you can use tethering and personal hotspot to share your unlimited data allowance with other devices.

International Roaming

It’s possible to continue using your Lebara Mobile SIM card through international roaming when you travel abroad to another country.

If you’re travelling to an EU or EEA country, you can use up to 15.7GB of data at no extra cost on the £25 unlimited data plan. This increases to a monthly download limit of 18.8GB of data on the £30 unlimited data plan.

If you’re travelling to India, you can use up to 10GB of data each month at no extra cost.

If you’re travelling to any other country, you’ll need to pay Lebara Mobile’s standard international roaming rates.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re joining Lebara Mobile from another mobile network, it’s a straightforward process to keep your current phone number.

Start by ordering your new unlimited data plan from the Lebara Mobile website. Once you’ve done that, you can request a PAC Code from your old network. You can get one through their website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

When your new unlimited data SIM card arrives in the post, submit your PAC Code to Lebara through this online form. They’ll then schedule the transfer of your phone number (normally for the next working day).

For a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your phone number to Lebara Mobile, please select your current mobile network from the dropdown menu below:

Your Comments 2 so far

We'd love to hear your thoughts and any questions you may have. So far, we've received 2 comments from readers. You can add your own comment here.

  • I have just rung Lebara to check their fair use policy for a SIM in an unlocked 4g router (the £25/month option) only to be told that the SIM cannot be used in a router or dongle. To save me checking more, is anyone using an unlimited SIM on the EE or Vodaphone networks in a router & could you advise who the service supplier is?

Just re-posted this here as a more relevant location

    Thanks.

  • Ken,

Thanks for spotting the latest offer, I wouldn’t have thought of it.

I was paying £35 a month for the Unlimited plan and after reading your comments I had to move fast and now I’m on £25 (I couldn’t get the first three months at half price because I’m an existing customer.)

Still, a significant reduction and very welcome in these trying times.

I’ve been with Lebara for almost a year now and very happy with them. There have been some network problems that were not their fault and when needed customer service has been excellent (by voice anyway, can’t say for online chat as I’ve never tried it.)

    Can thoroughly recommend them.

    Kind regards,

    Colin
