What is Sky WiFi Max?
In the UK, if you’re joining Sky Broadband as a new customer, you’ll have the option to upgrade to their WiFi Max service for an extra £6.50 per month. This is available on all Superfast, Ultrafast and Gigafast plans. However, it’s not available to customers with a Sky Q box or with Sky’s Essential Plus broadband.
The WiFi Max add-on gives you Sky’s latest Max Hub router with support for Wi-Fi 6 technology. You’ll also get an enhanced wall-to-wall WiFi guarantee included (up to 25Mbps), plus up to 3 Sky Max Pods at no extra cost if they’re needed. There’s also advanced security monitoring, evening & weekend engineer visits at no extra cost, and 2GB mobile data for unexpected broadband outages.
Sky Max Hub
The main benefit of upgrading to Sky’s WiFi Max add-on is the fact you’ll get their latest router included: the Sky Max Hub (SR213).
The Sky Max Hub supports Wi-Fi 6 technology (802.11ax). This allows you to benefit from faster speeds and a stronger connection on Wi-Fi 6 devices. It also offers improved security with WPA3 encryption for your data, along with better battery life on compatible smart home devices.
On the new router, Sky has also added the ability for you to pause or schedule Wi-Fi on a per-device basis. This means, for instance, you can pause the Wi-Fi connection on your children’s devices during mealtimes or after their bedtime. You can also prioritise or block individual devices from your network, as required.
The following table shows a side-by-side comparison of the Sky Max Hub and the standard Sky Broadband Hub:

Wall-to-Wall WiFi Guarantee
All of Sky’s Superfast, Ultrafast and Gigafast plans come with a standard wall-to-wall wi-fi guarantee of 3Mbps. This covers up to 5 bedrooms, and up to 12 rooms in total (excluding your garden and any exterior buildings such as sheds and garden offices).
If you’re a WiFi Max customer, you’ll benefit from an enhanced wall-to-wall wi-fi guarantee. This will be 10Mbps on the Superfast plans, or 25Mbps on the Ultrafast and Gigafast plans.
To help fulfil the enhanced wi-fi guarantee, you can get up to 3 Sky Max Pods at no extra cost to boost your home Wi-Fi signal (pictured). These are rebranded versions of the Plume SuperPod. If required, it’s also possible to get an engineer visit to improve your home wi-fi.

Your wi-fi guarantee will start 14 days after your service goes live (this is to allow a bit of time for your connection to stabilise). If you’re unable to get the minimum guaranteed wi-fi speeds, you can apply for a credit on your bill that’s equal to one month of your Sky Broadband subscription fee.
You can see the full terms of the enhanced Wi-Fi guarantee on Sky’s website.
Advanced Security Monitoring
At part of the WiFi Max add-on, you’ll also get Sky’s ‘advanced security’ feature. This is designed to block malware and phishing websites on your broadband connection. In addition, you’ll get real-time monitoring on all of the devices that are connected to your WiFi network. If any risky behaviour is detected, you’ll be shown an alert in the ‘My Sky’ app so you can decide what to do in response.
Evening & Weekend Engineer Visits
Sky has a team of broadband engineers known as the ‘Sky Broadband Tech Team’. They can help you to install new broadband equipment and can optimise your home network set-up to give you a stronger wi-fi signal or faster speeds.
If you want to book an evening or weekend appointment, there’s normally a £15 charge. However, this £15 charge is waived for customers that have the WiFi Max add-on.
Mobile Data For Outages
If you’re a Sky Mobile customer, you’ll get 2GB of data added to your Sky Piggybank whenever there’s an unplanned broadband outage lasting for more than 30 minutes between 7am and 11pm.
The idea of getting extra data on your mobile phone is that it can help tide you over until the broadband service is fixed. For instance, you can tether from your mobile phone to keep your other devices connected to the internet.
The downside is that it’s only available to Sky Mobile customers. Also, you’ll only get 2GB of data for each broadband outage, which isn’t really a huge amount if you’re sharing it with other devices. For instance, watching just one hour of high-definition video would use up the entire 2GB boost. In addition, there’s a delay of up to 24 hours for the data to be added to your piggybank, which also limits how useful it is if you want to use the data straight away.
According to Sky, you can get up to 3 data credits each month, and up to 18 credits over your 18-month contract.
Sky WiFi Max Deals

Switching to Sky
If you’re currently using a different broadband provider, it’s a straightforward process to switch to Sky Broadband.
Start by signing up online with Sky, making sure to provide your current landline number if you’d like to keep it. You can add the WiFi Max add-on after choosing your plan online.
Once you’ve placed your order, Sky will give you a switchover date for your new service. This will typically be in around 2 weeks time. They’ll also send you the new Sky Max Hub through the post so you can plug it in when your service goes live.
For step-by-step instructions on how to switch to Sky Broadband, please select your current provider from the drop-down menu below:

How do I buy BB with sky without boost? Seems to be defaulted to buy it!?!?

The “daily line check” is a complete misnomer. They only check if the line is active. There are no other line check parameters, so you’ll still need to call and book an engineer even for an external fault. I’ve cancelled my Boost subscription, and raised a mis-selling complaint with Sky, as there’s nothing in the terms detailing the very limited scope of this so-called “daily line check”.
