Lyca Mobile AloTurka Plans

If you’re looking to use your mobile phone in Turkey this summer, Lyca Mobile’s UK network is now offering a range of AloTurka plans with inclusive roaming in Turkey & the EU.

At present, the AloTurka plans start from £15 per month and are available on a Pay As You Go basis with no contract and no credit check required.

The following table shows the AloTurka plans from Lyca Mobile:

All of the AloTurka plans are a one-off purchase and last for 30 days. When you place your order, you’ll be able to choose between a physical SIM card and an eSIM:

  • If you choose a physical SIM card, this will be sent out to you through the post. You can expect it to take up to 5 working days for the SIM card to arrive (though it will normally arrive faster than that). The benefit is that a physical SIM card will work inside any unlocked mobile phone.
  • If you choose a Lyca Mobile eSIM, this will be issued to you straight away by email. This means you can start using the eSIM straight away. In addition, you can use the Lyca Mobile eSIM for dual-SIM functionality on compatible devices. However, you’ll need to make sure you have an eSIM-compatible phone to use this option.

Your Lyca Mobile AloTurka SIM card or eSIM should be activated inside the UK, before you use it abroad in Turkey and the EU.

Depending on the plan you choose, there’s a limit on how much data you’re able to use abroad in Turkey & the EU. This limit is 5GB on the £15 AloTurka S plan, 10GB on the £20 AloTurka M plan, and 15GB on the £25 AloTurka L plan.

The average UK smartphone user consumes about 4.5GB data per month (Ofcom, 2021). This equates to approximately 1GB data per week. For this reason, the AloTurka S plan should be enough for most users as it already gives you 5GB data per month in Turkey & the EU. However, you may prefer to choose one of the larger plans if you’re a heavy user or if you envision using more data when abroad (e.g. for social media and sharing).

If you do use up your entire data roaming allowance, you can add an extra 7GB of roaming data for £10 (AloTurka data add-on S) or an extra 15GB of roaming data for £15 (AloTurka data add-on M). Both of these add-ons are available as a one-off purchase and require you to have an active AloTurka plan.

AloTurka Features

No Contract & No Credit Check

There’s no contract and no credit check when you join Lyca Mobile. You’ll just pay for one month’s usage at a time. It’s the same way you’d pay for other subscriptions such as Spotify and Netflix.

As Lyca Mobile’s service works on a Pay As You Go basis, there’s also no chance of running up unexpected charges. That’s because your monthly payment is capped by default. If you’d like to make any out-of-allowance calls on your SIM card, you’ll need to add some additional Pay As You Go credit to your account first.

Once you’re back from Turkey, it’ll still be possible to use your AloTurka plan in the UK and in the EU for the rest of the 30-day period. Once that’s up, you have the option to switch to one of Lyca Mobile’s other plans if you like (e.g. you can choose a cheaper SIM-only plan that gives you lots of data in the UK).

Save Money On International Roaming

With Lyca Mobile’s AloTurka plan, you can save a lot of money when you travel abroad to Turkey. This is compared to roaming on other UK mobile networks.

To give an example, customers on other mobile networks such as EE, Vodafone and O2 will normally pay about £6 per day or more to use their phone in Turkey. This adds up to £42 if you’re travelling to Turkey for one week, or £84 if you’re travelling to Turkey for two weeks. If you’re then to multiply this up for each person in your family, you could be looking at several hundred pounds just to use your mobile phones whilst you’re there.

In contrast, you can save a lot of money by simply getting a £15 AloTurka SIM card for each person in your family. Furthermore, you can continue using the plan in the UK after you return, saving you even more.

Save Time In Turkey

In the past, it’s often been necessary to buy a local SIM card on arrival to save money when you travel abroad to other countries.

As well as this being a time-consuming detour, it isn’t always the easiest thing to do in Turkey. That’s because you’ll need to deal with the local phone shops on arrival, with prices often varying based on location and your negotiation skills. You’ll also need to register your SIM card and mobile phone with the government authorities in Turkey.

With Lyca Mobile’s AloTurka SIM card, you can save a lot of time. That’s because you’re getting a UK-based SIM card that you can set up before you even depart. There’s also no need to register it with the authorities in Turkey – just turn on your phone when you arrive in Turkey and you’re ready to go.

eSIM

If you’re looking for a faster way to get connected, Lyca Mobile now offers eSIM capability on their plans.

With eSIM, there’s no need to wait for a physical SIM card to arrive in the post. Instead, you simply need to scan a QR code on your eSIM-ready phone. You’re then connected and you can start using your new plan straight away, without the need for a physical SIM inside your phone.

Lyca Mobile’s eSIM service is compatible with the iPhone 11, the Samsung Galaxy S20, the Google Pixel 3, and later devices. You can see a full list of compatible devices on the Lyca Mobile website. In addition, most eSIM-ready phones allow you to use dual-SIM with eSIM so you can have two phone numbers at the same time on your device.

Coverage

If you’re using a Lyca Mobile AloTurka SIM card, you’ll get 99% population coverage across the UK. This is provided by O2’s 4G and 5G networks.

To double-check the coverage in your area, enter your postcode on Lyca Mobile’s online coverage map:

You’ll get access to 4G coverage when you’re travelling abroad in Turkey & the EU. This is provided by Lyca Mobile’s partner networks abroad.

  • On advice told to use SIM to contact customer services only to be told this would invalidate a refund after the event

I bought aloturka L SIM to use whilst in Turkey in december.as needed to keep in touch with family as father in law dying which sadly coincided with partners 60th. Go back 19th Dec 23 last use of sim, dis engaged. Tried app to cancel SIM renewal, you have to wait 2 days for confirmation. Tried twice. Yep renewal was taken!? Emailed explaining situation for refund. Told to fing 377 and text to 150 to cancel. Thus l, engaged SIM. These failed as no texts or calls allowed with data SIM. Emailed again told as I used SIM, albeit under direction they can no longer give refund. Martin Lewis resolver case stated to to contact offcom as this was policy and process problem. So for 1gb data use in Dec before renewal cost £50 you decide good value. If not my other option was to get Turkcell or vodaphone tourist SIM on arrival. But due to situation felt Lyca pre-bought SIM better. How mistaken was I. There advice, my mistake my loss!! I have screen shots of non call, no data, email of advice to use SIM after renewal that blocked refund. Which I have sent to Lyca, offtell and trading standards. I will post this on other media sites as stated in email to Lyca. They ignored this stating I used SIM after renewal so no refund despite their instruction to do so to engage with customer services!

  • Hi, I just arrived in Northern Cyprus which is part of Turkey on Friday. I purchased and activated the Aloturka Sim before leaving the UK and have discovered since arriving here that I cannot make calls to the UK and can only use the data that comes with the sim.

  • Hi, I may be missing something here, but after calling Lyca Mobile they seem to be just as confused about their product! I wonder if anyone can clarify the following: Using the AloTurka plan, whilst in Turkey, how many calling minutes to the U.K. do you get? Is it unlimited as roaming is included, or is it 100 minutes, or 50 minutes or none. I have cobtacted Lyca Mobile and every response to that question has generated one of the 4 responses!
