What is Sky Glass?

In the UK, Sky Glass is the new internet-connected TV from Sky. It gives you access to your favourite channels and apps through an internet connection so there’s no need to have an aerial or a satellite dish.

To use Sky Glass, you’ll need a home broadband connection with a minimum download speed of 10Mbps (or more if you’re looking to stream ultra-HD video or if you’re looking to use a Sky Stream Puck). There’s no need to be a Sky Broadband customer: you can use Sky Glass with any UK broadband provider.

One advantage of choosing the Sky Glass TV is the ability to pay for your television over 48 months. This is because Sky will offer you an interest-free loan for the TV, making it available on plans from just £13 per month. You can then add your Ultimate TV subscription to this (for £26 per month) on a flexible 31-day contract (instead of the 18-month contract required on Sky’s satellite TV plans).

The main disadvantage of Sky Glass is the fact you’ll be solely reliant on your broadband connection. Any disruption to your broadband service will also affect your ability to watch TV. In addition, there can be a delay of up to 45 seconds compared to the original live broadcast which can sometimes be problematic when you’re watching live sport. Sky Glass also has a more limited range of channels (there are around 120 channels available on the basic plan for Sky Glass, compared to the 300+ channels available on Sky’s satellite TV service).

For more information, you can compare Sky Glass and Sky Q.

Sky Glass TV Channels

As a Sky Glass customer, the basic television subscription is known as Ultimate TV. Available for £26 per month, it gives you access to around 120 channels through streaming. They include the Sky Entertainment channels along with channels from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Discovery, Nat Geo, and more.

Although the most popular channels are available on Sky Glass, it’s a more limited selection compared to the Sky Q satellite TV service. Whereas Sky Glass offers just over 120 channels, Sky Q offers more than 300 channels as standard.

You’ll get access to the following 123 channels on the Sky Glass Ultimate TV subscription:
