giffgaff Features

Flexible Plans

When you buy a mobile phone from giffgaff, your handset plan is separate from your airtime plan. This gives you a bit of flexibility to change the two things independently of each other. For instance, you’ll be able to adjust your airtime plan, without it affecting your handset plan.

If you choose one of giffgaff’s 18-month airtime plans, you’ll have the ability to move up or down to any other plan within giffgaff’s 18-month range (e.g. to get more or less data). When you do this, it won’t reset the term of your commitment3.

If you choose one of giffgaff’s 1-month rolling or Pay As You Go plans, you’ll be able to change to another plan, whenever you like.

4G & 5G Coverage From O2

giffgaff is powered by the O2 network – you’ll get both 4G coverage and 5G coverage included as standard.

Before you sign up as a new giffgaff member, it’s worth checking to make sure you can get coverage where you live. You can do this by entering your postcode on giffgaff’s online coverage map:

Check giffgaff coverage (giffgaff.com) →

5G T&Cs: You need 5G coverage, a 5G device and SIM, and 5G switched on in your giffgaff account. Find out more about 5G coverage see https://www.giffgaff.com/help/articles/does-my-area-have-5g-coverage. Terms apply, see giffgaff.com/terms.

Inclusive EU Roaming

On giffgaff, you can use your plan’s allowance at no extra cost (up to 5GB per month) when you travel in the EU and selected destinations. This includes popular tourist hotspots such as Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and more.

giffgaff’s inclusive European roaming has a fair use limit of up to 5GB data per month. For most users, this should be more than enough for a short trip abroad.

According to Ofcom, the average UK mobile user goes through about 9.9GB data per month. Therefore, at this average rate of usage, you’d be able to use your mobile phone abroad for 15 days per month in Europe.

EU Roaming T&Cs: For all plans with over 5GB UK data, data roaming in EU and selected destinations is capped at 5GB. You’ll be charged 10p/MB once 5GB is used.

Certified B Corp

giffgaff is a certified B Corp with a score of 85.8. This score is based on five main areas: how they treat their customers, colleagues, the community, the environment, and how they run their business.

According to giffgaff, they’ve generated more than £1m worth of charitable donations together with their members. In addition, all of their SIM cards are made from recycled plastic, with a mobius category 7 rating. giffgaff also offers a choice of refurbished mobile phones, allowing members to save money and to be more sustainable.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re switching from another mobile network to giffgaff, it’s a straightforward process keeping your current phone number.

Start by ordering your new mobile phone from the giffgaff website. Once you’ve done that, you can request a PAC Code from your old network. This can normally be obtained through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once you’ve placed your order, your new phone and SIM card will normally be delivered on the next working day. Once you’ve activated it, you’ll be able to submit the PAC Code online through a form on giffgaff’s website. This will schedule the transfer of your phone number (normally for the next working day, as long as you submit it before 3pm).

For a step-by-step guide on transferring your phone number to giffgaff, please select your current mobile network from the drop-down menu below:
