At present, Lyca Mobile is offering a range of exclusive SIM-only plans, with prices starting from just 99p per month for the first 3 months (then £4.75 per month thereafter).

All of Lyca Mobile’s SIM-only plans are available on a one-month rolling basis with no contract, no credit check, and 4G & 5G coverage from O2. You’ll also get inclusive international minutes, along with inclusive EU roaming with your plan.

In this article, we’ll look at Lyca Mobile’s best SIM-only deals and how you can sign up to get their latest exclusive offers. We’ll also look at the features available on Lyca Mobile and how you can keep your existing phone number when moving to Lyca Mobile.

Best Lyca Mobile Deals

As a special offer in June 2023, Lyca Mobile is offering one-month rolling SIM-only plans that start from just 99p/month for 3 months. All of their plans come with unlimited UK minutes and unlimited UK texts, along with an allowance of 4G & 5G data as follows:

NetworkMinutesTextsDataMonthly

for 3 months, then £4.75/month
LycamobileUnlimitedUnlimited5GB£1.50

LycamobileUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited£10.00
for 3 months, then £25/month
LycamobileUnlimitedUnlimited100GB£10.00
for 6 months, then £20/month

The most suitable plan for you really depends on how much data you require. For the average mobile user, we’d probably recommend the 10GB data for £1.99 per month plan (this will cost £6.50 per month after the first 3 months).

According to Ofcom, the average UK mobile user consumes about 5.6GB data per month (data from 2021). Therefore, the 10GB data plan should be ample for most users. However, you may need to adjust this accordingly if you’re either a heavy mobile user or a light mobile user.

If you choose the £5 National Plus plan (with 20GB data) or the £10 Mega Plus plan (with 100GB data), you can benefit from a discounted price on your plan for the first 6 months (increased from the first 3 months).

Lyca Mobile Features

No Contract & No Credit Check

There’s no contract and no credit check on all of Lyca Mobile’s plans. In the same way you’d pay for other subscriptions such as Spotify and Netflix, you’ll just pay for one month’s usage at a time.

On Lyca Mobile, you also have the flexibility to change or cancel your plan at any time. For instance, you can downgrade to a cheaper plan to save money, or you can upgrade your plan to get more data.

As Lyca Mobile’s service works on a Pay As You Go basis, there’s also no chance of running up unexpected charges on your bill. This is because your monthly payment is capped by default. If you’d like to make any out-of-allowance calls on your SIM card, you’ll need to add some additional Pay As You Go credit to your account.

4G & 5G Coverage From O2

On Lyca Mobile, you’ll have access to 4G and 5G coverage from O2. This means you’ll have 99% UK population coverage on O2’s 4G network, as well as 5G coverage in more than 750 UK towns and cities (if you’re using a 5G-ready device).

If you’d like to check the coverage in your area before ordering a SIM card, you can do this by entering your postcode on Lyca Mobile’s online coverage map.

Lyca Mobile’s 5G network is compatible with both iPhone and Android devices. If you’re using an iPhone, you’ll need the iOS 16.4 update to use 5G on Lyca Mobile.

International Minutes

On most Lyca Mobile plans, you’ll also get an inclusive allowance of international minutes. This allows you to call both landline and mobile numbers in the following 38 international destinations:

  1. Australia
  2. Austria
  3. Belgium
  4. Bulgaria
  5. Canada
  6. China
  7. Croatia
  8. Czech Republic
  9. Denmark
  10. Estonia
  11. Finland
  12. France
  13. Germany
  14. Greece
  15. Hungary
  16. Iceland
  17. India
  18. Ireland
  19. Italy
  20. Latvia
  21. Lithuania
  22. Luxembourg
  23. Malaysia
  24. Malta
  25. Netherlands
  26. New Zealand
  27. Norway

  32. Slovakia
  33. Slovenia
  34. South Korea
  35. Spain
  36. Sweden
  37. Switzerland
  38. United States

The 99p and £1.50 plans come with 50 inclusive international minutes per month. This increases to 100 international minutes on the more expensive plans. Lyca Mobile also offers specialist international calling plans if you’re looking for a larger allowance of international minutes each month.

European Roaming

Many other UK mobile networks will now charge you up to £2 per day for using your mobile phone in Europe.

In contrast, Lyca Mobile continues to offer free EU roaming on their plans. This includes your minutes and texts, along with the data on your plan subject to the following limits:

  • The 99p plan and £1.50 plan allow you to use up to 1GB data per month in the EU.
  • The £1.99 plan allows you to use up to 1.5GB data per month in the EU.
  • The £2.99 plan allows you to use up to 2GB data per month in the EU.
  • The £5 National Plus plan allows you to use up to 5GB data per month in the EU.
  • The £10 Mega Plus plan allows you to use up to 9.5GB data per month in the EU.

In addition to the free EU roaming that’s available on all Lyca Mobile plans, Lyca Mobile also offers a range of AloTurka plans with inclusive roaming in Turkey.

eSIM

If you’re looking for a faster way to get connected, Lyca Mobile now offers eSIM capability on their plans.

With eSIM, there’s no need to wait for a physical SIM card to arrive in the post. Instead, you simply need to scan a QR code on your eSIM-ready phone. You’re then connected and you can start using your new plan straight away, without the need for a physical SIM inside your phone.

Lyca Mobile’s eSIM service is compatible with the iPhone 11, the Samsung Galaxy S20, the Google Pixel 3, and later devices. You can see a full list of compatible devices on the Lyca Mobile website. In addition, most eSIM-ready phones allow you to use dual-SIM with eSIM so you can have two phone numbers at the same time on your device (e.g. both your personal phone number and your work phone number).

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re switching from another UK mobile network, it’s a straightforward process to transfer your phone number to Lyca Mobile.

Start by ordering your new SIM-only plan from the Lyca Mobile website. For most people, we’d recommend the 10GB plan at £1.99 per month for 3 months. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of different data allowances from 3GB per month to 100GB per month.

Once you’ve ordered your new Lyca Mobile SIM card, you can get a PAC Code from your old mobile network. This is available through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once you’ve received and activated your new Lyca Mobile SIM card, you’ll be able to submit your PAC Code through this page on the Lyca Mobile website. Your phone number will then be moved over within 2 working days.

  • Be very very very careful with this network. There is tons of small print regarding their offers.

The other red flag is their customer service. It won’t be a case of IF when something goes wrong but WHEN. It took my wife 2 weeks of calls, being hung up on when the agent didn’t know what to do or the call was dragging on, emails back and forth before she could join the network.

First they send out an email with a QR code to set up your esim. The first email never arrived. A follow up email is sent with a link containing instructions how to activate the esim. The link didn’t resolve.
Due to all the issues my wife tried to order a physical SIM only to be told that because she attempted to set up an esim and set up an account on their website, she was no longer able to get most of their offers.
The next thing to go wrong was the number port failed resulting in more calls to try and get it resolved.

Between the downright incompetentence of this network, the completely useless customer service reps and the dodgy way their offers are worded (implys one thing but really means something else or the layout of their site makes it difficult to actually understand what they are offering) avoid this network at all costs.
