Sky’s wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee is now offered on all broadband plans, with the option to enhance this with the WiFi Max add-on. Find out how it works & what you actually get.

In the UK, you’ll now get a wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee included on all Sky Broadband plans.

The standard wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee promises a download speed of at least 3Mbps in every room of your home (though limitations apply). This is offered using only the Sky Broadband Hub router – there’s no additional hardware from Sky to actually improve your home WiFi.

For an extra £7.50 per month, you can upgrade to the enhanced wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee with WiFi Max. This will increase your guaranteed WiFi speeds to 10Mbps on Superfast plans and to 25Mbps on Ultrafast & Gigafast plans. You’ll get a more powerful hub and up to 3 Pods to boost your home WiFi coverage, as well as access to a WiFi engineer visit if required.

In this article, we’ll take an in-depth look at Sky’s wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee, including how it works and how the two different levels of guarantee compare to each other. We’ll also look at the best Sky broadband deals with guaranteed wi-fi included, and rival offerings from other providers.

What is Sky’s Wall-to-Wall WiFi Guarantee?

In the UK, Sky now offers a wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee on all of their broadband plans. This comes in two different forms:

  • The standard wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee says you’ll be able to get a download speed of at least 3Mbps in every eligible room of your home. Having said that, beyond the standard Sky Broadband hub, there’s no additional hardware to actually boost your home wi-fi. As such, it’s unlikely you’ll see much of a difference in WiFi coverage, when compared to your existing provider.
You’ll get a bill credit towards one month of your Sky Broadband subscription fee if you’re not able to get 3Mbps on WiFi in every room.
  • The enhanced wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee comes as part of the new WiFi Max add-on. It says you’ll be able to get a download speed of at least 10Mbps in every eligible room on Superfast plans, and at least 25Mbps on Ultrafast and Gigafast plans. When you upgrade, Sky will actually give you some additional hardware to improve your home WiFi. This includes their latest Sky Max Hub router, and up to 3 Sky Max Pods if required. It’s also possible to get a wi-fi engineer visit if needed.

The following table shows a side-by-side comparison of the wi-fi guarantees:

Standard Wi-Fi Guarantee Enhanced Wi-Fi Guarantee

For many households, the standard 3Mbps WiFi guarantee should suffice for everyday online activities (such as browsing the web, listening to music, and streaming standard-definition video). However, it’s worth noting that Sky doesn’t actually do anything to actively improve your home WiFi. As such, if you’re currently struggling to get 3Mbps in every room on your existing provider, it’s likely you’ll have the exact same problem after you switch to Sky. For this reason, it’s best to consider this purely as a ‘money back’ offer.

The enhanced WiFi Guarantee of 10Mbps on Superfast plans is enough for HD-quality video streaming, and the 25Mbps on Ultrafast & Gigafast plans is enough for Ultra HD (4K) video streaming. With the enhanced guarantee, you should actually expect improvements to your home WiFi as you’re getting a more advanced router, and up to 3 WiFi Pods to boost the signal if needed.

Both versions of the wall-to-wall WiFi Guarantee are limited to 5 bedrooms and up to 12 rooms in total. It excludes any exterior buildings (such as garden offices) and unconverted lofts. In addition, the guarantee is only valid if you’re using the router provided by Sky and only once your broadband service has been active for 14 days. You can only claim against the Wi-Fi Guarantee once during your 18-month Sky Broadband contract. For further details about the limitations & restrictions, see the full terms of the guarantee on Sky’s website.

Alternatives

At present, Sky is the only major UK broadband provider to offer a WiFi guarantee as standard on their service. However, as they’re not actually offering anything extra in terms of hardware on the standard service, it’s unlikely you’ll see much of an improvement to your home’s WiFi coverage by simply switching to Sky.

If you’re looking for an active solution that will actually improve the WiFi in your home, you’ll need the enhanced Wi-Fi Guarantee on Sky’s WiFi Max add-on. This is similar to rival offerings from other providers such as BT’s Complete WiFi, EE’s Smart WiFi, Virgin Media’s WiFi Max, and Vodafone’s Pro Broadband service.

Alternatively, you can decide to do-it-yourself by getting a mesh wi-fi system such as the Amazon eero or Google Nest Wi-Fi. You can use these mesh wi-fi systems with any UK broadband provider.

Switching to Sky

If you’re currently using a different broadband provider, it’s a straightforward process switching to Sky Broadband.

Start by signing up online with Sky. Once you’ve placed your order, Sky will give you a switchover date for your new service. This will typically be in around 2 weeks time. They’ll also send your new hub through the post, so you can plug it in when your service goes live.

Once your new Sky Broadband service is active, you’ll need to wait an extra 14 days before your wall-to-wall WiFi guarantee starts.
