There are a couple of things we really like about this deal:

• You’ll get unlimited data with Vodafone 5G coverage. Although there are a couple of comparable plans out there (such as SMARTY’s £16 unlimited data plan), this is unique in that you’ll get 4G and 5G coverage from Vodafone at this price point. In many areas, Vodafone’s network may give you better coverage than Three.
• You can roam at no extra cost in Europe (up to 5GB per month). You’ll be able to use your Talkmobile plan at no extra cost in 47 European destinations. This includes the minutes, texts and data from your plan (up to a maximum of 5GB per month).
• There are no annual price rises. According to Talkmobile, there are no annual price rises on their plans. This means the basic cost of your plan is fixed at £16 per month. In contrast, many other mobile networks have annual price rises built-in to their plans. This can increase the cost of your plan by up to £1.80 per month each year.
• You’ll get unlimited UK minutes & texts. This £16 unlimited data plan comes with unlimited UK calls and texts.
• You can tether & personal hotspot as needed. Your unlimited data allowance can be shared with other devices through the tethering or personal hotspot feature on your phone.
• Talkmobile is part of Vodafone. Although it’s a lesser known brand, Talkmobile has been around since 2007. It was originally founded by the Carphone Warehouse, before it was taken over by Vodafone in 2011. Since then, it has operated as a subsidiary of Vodafone so you can be assured of their longer-term viability.

There are, however, also two disadvantages to this deal. Firstly, Talkmobile lacks eSIM support so you’ll need to have a physical SIM card sent out to you in the post. Although their SIM cards are sent free of charge through Royal Mail, it’s worth accounting for the delivery times if you’re looking to get connected quickly. Secondly, you’ll need to undergo an ID check when you sign up for your plan. However, there’s no credit check needed and it doesn’t affect your credit score.

Fair Usage Policy

According to Talkmobile’s terms and conditions, their service “is for personal use only and cannot be used for commercial or business purposes”. Beyond that, there are no hidden ‘fair usage’ limits on how much data you’re able to use in the UK.

If you’re travelling abroad to a European destination where Talkmobile has inclusive roaming, there’ll be a roaming fair use limit of 5GB data per month. In addition, you mustn’t spend more than 60 days abroad in a European destination out of 120 days. If you were to do this, you’ll be sent a warning message first. After a further 14 days, you’ll then be surcharged £7 per week for your usage.

Keeping Your Phone Number

Start by asking your current mobile network to give you a PAC Code. You can get one through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once you have the PAC Code from your old network, you can order the unlimited data plan from Talkmobile's website.
