5G SIM Only Plans
At the moment, it’s possible to get a 5G SIM-only plan from £5/month on BT Mobile. This pricing is available as long as you’re a BT Broadband customer (otherwise, you’ll need to pay an additional £5 per month).
24 Month Plans
If you’re looking for the lowest possible price, you can get one of the following 5G SIM cards from BT Mobile on a 24-month contract (the prices shown are for BT Broadband customers):
Network | Minutes | Texts | Data | Monthly Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
No price plans could be found matching this criteria. |
You’ll get access to the BT Sport app included on plans from £15 per month. This allows you to watch all four BT Sport channels on your mobile phone. You’ll also get a 20% discount when you take multiple SIM cards through the Family SIM offer.
Alongside the access to BT’s 4G and 5G network, you’ll also get inclusive access to more than 5 million BT Wi-Fi hotspots with your BT Mobile SIM card.
12 Month Plans
If you want a bit more flexibility, you can choose a 12-month contract from BT Mobile instead. This allows you to get a 5G-ready SIM card from £7/month)
Network | Minutes | Texts | Data | Monthly Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
No price plans could be found matching this criteria. |
Once again, the prices shown are for BT Broadband customers. Customers of other broadband providers should add an extra £5/month.
BT Halo
If you’re a BT Halo customer, you’ll get double data on all BT Mobile SIM cards. You can also get an unlimited data plan for £20 per month on BT Mobile (this replaces the 100GB per month plan which is available to other customers):
Network | Minutes | Texts | Data | Monthly Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
No price plans could be found matching this criteria. |
On BT Mobile, 5G coverage is included at no extra cost on all SIM-only deals taken since the 1st September 2020. It’s also included on all Family SIM deals taken since the 13th November 2020. SIM-only plans taken before these dates will be limited to 4G.
5G Smartphones
At the moment, it’s only possible to access 5G coverage when you buy a SIM-only plan from BT Mobile.
Prior to September 2020, BT also sold a number of 5G-ready phones from Samsung, Huawei and OnePlus. They now no longer offer 5G phones, encouraging you to go to EE instead if you want a 5G-ready smartphone like the iPhone 12.
If you previously took a 5G-ready phone on contract from BT Mobile, you’ll retain access to BT Mobile’s 5G network.
5G Download Speeds
On BT Mobile’s 5G service, you can expect average download speeds of 150-200Mbps. This is about five times faster than their 4G service, which is normally capped at a maximum speed of 30Mbps. You’ll also benefit from greater network capacity and lower amounts of latency when using 5G on BT Mobile.
In some cases, the peak download speeds on BT’s 5G network can go as high as 1,000Mbps (1Gbps).
5G Network Bands
In the UK, BT Mobile’s 5G service uses band n78 spectrum (3500MHz). Most 5G phones for the UK market are designed to support 5G coverage in this band. However, if you’re buying a 5G phone from outside the UK, you should check to make sure it supports 5G in this band.
Alongside their 5G network coverage, which is provided by EE, BT Mobile also offers 2G, 3G and 4G coverage from EE. This coverage uses the following bands and frequencies:
BT Mobile Coverage Type | Supported Bands & Frequencies |
---|---|
5G Coverage |
|
4G Coverage |
|
3G Coverage |
|
2G Coverage |
|
For more information, see our guide to the EE’s network and coverage.
