Virgin Mobile offers SIM-only and Pay Monthly deals, with extra data on selected plans and a free screen repair on some phones.

This month, Virgin Mobile has a range of SIM-only offers as well as Pay Monthly deals with a new handset included. The amount of data you’ll get on certain plans has been increased. For instance, you can now get 8GB of data for £8/month or 30GB of data for £13/month on a SIM-only basis. On Pay Monthly, there’s extra data on the 30GB and 60GB plans as well as a free screen repair on selected devices.

In this article, we’ll summarise the best deals and offers currently available from Virgin Mobile, both on a SIM-only basis and on Pay Monthly devices. We’ll also look at other features of Virgin Mobile including free screen repair, data rollover and data-free messaging. Finally, we’ll look at the 4G coverage on Virgin Mobile and how you can keep your current phone number when moving to the network.

SIM Only Deals

Through October, you can get an increased data allowance on many Virgin Mobile SIM-only deals. These are low-cost plans for your mobile phone with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and an allowance of data (between 3GB and 100GB per month).

For instance, you can currently get 3GB of data for just £6/month or 8GB of data for just £8/month. Alternatively, if you need more data, you can get 20GB of data for £12/month, 30GB of data for £13/month or 100GB of data for £20/month.

In reality, you’ll use multiple apps and activities during one month so you’ll need to combine the data usage for each activity. Alternatively, your smartphone will tell you how much data you currently use each month.

For more information, see our guide to mobile download limits or see the assumptions we’ve made in coming to these numbers.

Pay Monthly Handsets

Throughout the whole of October, Virgin Mobile is also offering increased data on selected Pay Monthly plans. You can get 30GB of data for the price of 15GB, or 60GB of data for the price of 20GB. Selected Pay Monthly phones now also include a free screen repair, giving you additional peace of mind for the first year.

One of the most popular phones on Virgin Mobile is currently the iPhone 11. It’s available for a base price of £30/month on 36-month contract. This base price includes unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. You can then choose how much data you want, by adding a flexible monthly payment for different amounts of data:

  • The base price includes 1GB of data with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts (this is £30 per month on the iPhone 11).
  • Add £3/month for 3GB of data (making £33 per month on the iPhone 11).
  • Add £4/month for 8GB of data (making £34 per month on the iPhone 11).
  • Add £7/month for 30GB of data – increased from 15GB (making £37 per month on the iPhone 11).
  • Add £9/month for 60GB of data – increased from 20GB (making £39 per month on the iPhone 11).
  • Add £14/month for 100GB of data (making £39 per month on the iPhone 11).

You can ‘flex’ or change the amount of data included on your plan every month. For instance, you can upgrade to a plan with more data, or you can downgrade to a cheaper plan with less data to save money.

A range of bundles are also available where you’ll get the iPhone along with other devices. For instance, for a base price of £32/month, you can get the iPhone 11 with a pair of AirPods. Alternatively, you can pay £35/month for the iPhone 11 with an Apple Watch or £41/month for the iPhone 11 with an iPad.

Virgin Mobile Features & Benefits

Free Screen Repair

Nothing is more frustrating than accidentally dropping your smartphone and smashing the screen on it. This is especially when it’s a fairly new phone. According to Virgin, up to a third of the UK’s population could currently be living with a smashed screen on their mobile phone.

Until the 8th November 2020, Virgin Mobile is including a free one-off screen repair when you buy or upgrade to one of the following smartphones with them:

  • Apple iPhone 11 Pro
  • Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • Samsung Galaxy A51 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
  • Huawei P40 Lite
  • Huawei P40
  • Huawei P40 Pro 5G
  • Oppo Find X2 Lite
  • Oppo Find X2 Neo
  • Oppo Find X2 Pro

All of the phones that are eligible for the screen repair service are listed on this page. The one-off screen repair is available for 12 months after the purchase of your phone.

Data Rollover

You’ll get data rollover included on all Virgin Mobile SIM-only and Pay Monthly plans. This gives you a second chance to use the data on your plan as anything that isn’t used will rollover into the following month’s allowance.

To give an example, you might have the £13 SIM card from Virgin Mobile which includes 30GB of data per month. If you were to use 20GB of data in one month, this would give you 10GB of leftover data to carry over. The 10GB will rollover into the following month’s allowance, giving you a total of 40GB of data to use the next month.

See the Virgin Mobile website for more information about how the data rollover feature works.

Data-Free Messaging

You’ll get data-free messaging included on all Virgin Mobile SIM-only and Pay Monthly plans. With data-free messaging, you can use WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter without it eating into your mobile data allowance.

This works with all forms of messaging on the three applications including text, voice, photos, videos and audio notes. However, it doesn’t include voice and video calls that are made through WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

There’s more information about this feature on the Virgin Mobile website.

Superfast 4G Coverage

On Virgin Mobile, you’ll have access to 99% population coverage using EE’s network.

According to Virgin, you can expect an average download speed of 37Mbps and an average upload speed of 13Mbps on their network. In areas with good 4G coverage and available capacity, this can go all the way up to a maximum of 85Mbps download and 35Mbps upload.

You can check the coverage in your area by entering your postcode on Virgin Mobile’s online coverage map.

Virgin Media Wi-Fi Calling

If you have a compatible smartphone, you can use Virgin Media’s Wi-Fi Calling to make and receive phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection. This feature allows you to stay connected even where a mobile signal isn’t available (including when you’re in a signal blackspot or when you’re travelling on the Underground).

A full list of compatible devices and further information can be found on the Virgin Media website.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re changing from another mobile network to Virgin Mobile, it’s easy keeping your current phone number.

To do so, start by getting a PAC Code from your old network. You can get one free of charge through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075. Once you’ve done this, you’ll receive a PAC Code within one minute which will be valid for up to 30 days.

Once you have the PAC Code from your old network, order your new phone or SIM card from the Virgin Media website. You can either give the PAC Code to Virgin Mobile during the sign-up process, or you can wait until your new service is already up and running. Once you give the PAC Code to Virgin Mobile, your phone number transfer will normally be scheduled for the next working day.

For a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your phone number to Virgin Mobile, please select your current mobile network from the drop-down menu below:
