EE now offers fibre broadband without a landline, allowing you to save money by not having a phone line you don’t use.
In the UK, EE now offers fibre broadband without a phone line from £29.99 per month (from £29.99 per month if you’re an EE Pay Monthly mobile customer).
Designed for customers who don’t use their landline for making or receiving calls, the service allows you to save money by not having a phone line that you don’t use. You can still add a landline if you’d like one, or additional features like EE’s Smart WiFi service are also available as an add-on.
In this article, we’ll explain how EE’s broadband without a landline service works. We’ll look at the plans available, at the discounts available for EE customers and at the optional calling add-ons if you want a landline. We’ll also discuss the other features of EE broadband and how you can switch from your current broadband provider to EE.

EE Broadband Without A Landline
How Does It Work?
In the UK, most home broadband services have traditionally required you to get a home phone service together with your broadband. That’s despite the fact that many of us no longer use our landlines for making or receiving any calls (it’s often far easier and much more convenient to use your mobile phone for calls instead).
The reason you’ll normally need to get the two services together is because they use the same cable going into your home. On a landline, voice calls only use a small portion of the frequencies available (going up to 4kHz). Broadband internet is delivered using the higher frequencies that aren’t required for calling. With regular broadband, you’re therefore buying a home phone service where the broadband has been added on top of it.
EE’s ‘broadband without a landline’ service uses a new technology known as SOGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access). This strips out the home phone portion of your service, so the ‘phone line’ into your home is only used to deliver a fibre broadband service.
Benefits Of Broadband Without A Phone Line
There are two key benefits of having broadband without a phone line:
- You’ll get a lower monthly price without the home phone service. Because the home phone portion of the service is no longer being required, you won’t need to pay for it, therefore saving you money.
- You’ll get a more reliable broadband service. Broadband without a phone line can be more reliable as there won’t be any home phone traffic to interfere with your broadband.
It’s important to be clear what this means and what this doesn’t actually mean. It doesn’t mean the ‘phone line’ (as in the cable) into your home disappears – it’s still there but it’s now being used only for broadband. The only difference is you won’t have a home phone service on your landline and if you try to plug one in, there won’t be a dial tone. You also won’t have a landline phone number as it won’t be possible to make or receive calls on it.
Comparison to 4G & 5G Broadband
EE’s ‘broadband without a phone line’ service is very different from 4G or 5G-based services like the 4GEE Home Router, the 4GEE WiFi Mini or the 5GEE Home Router.
4G and 5G services use mobile broadband technology instead of fibre optic cables to deliver a broadband service to you. EE’s ‘broadband without a phone line’ service still uses a wired connection, but the home phone service is removed so you’ll only get a fibre broadband service.
EE Broadband Plans
Broadband Plans Without A Landline
You can get fibre broadband plans from EE without a landline, with prices starting from £29.99 per month (or £29.99 per month if you’re an EE Pay Monthly mobile customer).
The following table shows EE’s broadband plans without a landline:

In addition, if you’re living in a home with access to EE’s FTTP (full fibre) broadband service, you can get the Full Fibre Max 900 plan. This gives you ultrafast speeds of up to 900Mbps on average (also without a landline):

Phone Line & Calling Add-Ons

If you choose EE’s standard ADSL broadband plan, this will be included in the price.
- Anytime calls to UK landlines & mobiles (£8/month): For £8/month, you can get anytime calls to UK landlines and 1500 minutes for calling mobile phones in the UK.
- Anytime UK & International calls (£12/month): For £12/month, you’ll get anytime calls to UK landlines as well as international landlines in 50 other countries (see the full list below). You’ll also get 1500 minutes for calling mobile phones in the UK.

Switching to EE Broadband
If you’re switching your broadband provider from another company to EE, it’s easy to do this.
Start by ordering your new broadband plan from EE’s website. You can either choose broadband without a landline, or you can add a landline if you’d like to use one. At the end of the order process, EE will give you a go-live date for your new service.
In advance of the switchover, EE will get in touch with your older provider to automatically cancel your old service unless you’re a Virgin Media customer (if this is the case, you’ll need to contact Virgin to cancel). They’ll also give you a £50 credit on your bill if you’re charged by your old provider for early cancellation.

I’ve moved into a first floor flat & unbelievably I cannot get wifi from any provider. I dont need a landline, will any ee broadband deals work for me? A guy in work said something about getting something that you plug in the wall, he got it from amazon & EE provide his broadband, buy I’m not techno minded.
Ken replied:
Hi Lesley,
Thanks for your comment. It sounds like he might be talking about 4G home broadband which is available without the need for a phone line or cable. The best value deal is currently available on Three Broadband (£17/month for unlimited 4G home broadband), but you can also choose from a range of other providers including BT, EE and Vodafone.
Hope this helps,
Ken
