giffgaff is offering a huge 500GB of data for the first 6 months when you sign up to their £20 18-month contract1.
In the UK, giffgaff has launched their new winter promotion, allowing you to get an extra 380GB of data per month for 6 months when you sign up to their £20 SIM-only contract. That’s 500GB instead of the usual 120GB of data. You’ll also get unlimited UK minutes and unlimited UK texts, with access to O2’s 4G & 5G network2.
In this article, we’ll look at giffgaff’s £20 winter promo offer, and how it gives you 500GB data for the first 6 months when you sign up on a £20 contract for 18 months. We’ll also look at the features included on the plan, and how you can keep your current phone number when you switch to giffgaff.
500GB Data for £20 on giffgaff
If you’re a heavy mobile user, it’s currently possible to get a massive 500GB of data per month for the first 6 months on giffgaff’s £20 contract plan (increased from 120GB). That’s an extra 380GB data per month for the first six months.
This special offer is available until the 1st February 2024. Alongside the 500GB data, you’ll get 4G & 5G coverage from O22. There’s also unlimited UK minutes and unlimited UK texts included on your plan:
for 6 months
You’ll need to sign up for an 18-month contract to get this deal, but you’ll retain the flexibility to change your plan over time (e.g. by moving to another plan in giffgaff’s 18-month range).
Change Your Plan Anytime
Although you’re signing up for an 18-month contract, you’ll retain the flexibility to change your plan from month to month4.
For instance, if things change and you need less data in the future, you can swap to another plan within giffgaff’s 18-month range. This is possible without resetting the term of your commitment or incurring early termination fees.
If required, it’s also possible to refresh your plan early (e.g. if you run out of data).
The following table shows the other plans available in giffgaff’s 18-month range:

No Credit Check
There’s no need to go through a credit check when you sign up to a SIM-only contract from giffgaff. That means a lot less hassle: there’s no need to provide lots of obscure information such as your address history or to have a lengthy UK credit history when you sign up.
To get this deal, you can simply order your free SIM card online. When it arrives, you’ll be able to activate it, save a valid payment method, and set your plan to auto-renew monthly.
4G & 5G Coverage From O2
giffgaff is powered by the O2 network – you’ll get both 4G coverage and 5G coverage included as standard2.
Before you sign up as a new giffgaff member, it’s worth checking to make sure you can get coverage where you live. You can do this by entering your postcode on giffgaff’s online coverage map:
Inclusive EU Roaming
You’ll be able to use your plan allowance at no extra cost (up to 5GB per month) when you travel in the EU and selected destinations3.
This inclusive roaming covers many popular tourist destinations including Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and more. That means, for instance, you’ll be able to jet away for some sunshine this winter, without the need to pay more on your phone bill whilst you’re there (as long as you stay within the 5GB limit).
Fairer Exit Fees
You can change between giffgaff’s 18-month plans at any time, without resetting the term of your commitment or incurring early termination fees.
If you’re leaving giffgaff altogether, the early termination fee is just 50% of your current plan cost, multiplied by the number of months you have remaining on your contract (following the month in which cancellation is required). For instance, if you are on a £20 contract plan and you have 3 months remaining on your contract (following your current month), the early termination fee would be £30.
Certified B Corp
giffgaff is a certified B Corp with a score of 85.8. This score is based on five main areas: how they treat their customers, colleagues, the community, the environment, and how they run their business.

Keeping Your Phone Number
It’s easy keeping your current phone number when you switch to giffgaff.
Start by ordering your new SIM from the giffgaff website. Once you’ve done that, you can ask your current mobile network to give you a PAC Code. This is available through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.
You can order your giffgaff SIM card by 5pm for next day delivery. Once you’ve activated it, you’ll be able to submit the PAC Code online through a form on giffgaff’s website. This will schedule the transfer of your phone number (normally for the next working day, as long you submit it before 3pm).
