We’ll also look at the coverage available on ASDA Mobile and at how you can keep an existing phone number when moving to the network.

Comparison to Alternatives

£10 per month bundles

10 Pound NoteAt present, ASDA’s £10 Mega Christmas Bundle is by far the market-leading offer. With it, you’ll get unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 20GB of data. For the same monthly price, other mobile networks will typically provide only up to 500 minutes and 1GB of data per month.

Vodafone150Unlimited500MB£10.00

Normally, ASDA Mobile offers 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1.5GB of internet for £10/month (this would still make it our market-leading offer).

Heavy Data Users

20 Pound NoteIf you’re a heavy data user, rival mobile networks will charge at least £20/month for a comparable amount of data.

The closest alternative to ASDA’s Mega Christmas Bundle is probably giffgaff’s £20 goodybag. This has unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited downloads (with tethering and 4G on the first 6GB per month).

Alternatively, Three offers 12GB of data for £20/month, O2 offers 20GB of data for £30/month and Vodafone offers 20GB of data for £30/month.

Network & Coverage

2G & 3G Coverage from EE

ASDA Mobile Coverage

ASDA Mobile is a virtual network operator that uses EE as its network coverage provider. This means customers using ASDA Mobile will get coverage from EE’s 2G and 3G network. At present, this represents 99% population coverage for calls, texts and high-speed mobile internet.

Before ordering a SIM card from ASDA Mobile, we strongly recommend checking the coverage in your area. You can do this by entering your postcode on the ASDA Mobile website:

Tethering

Tethering or personal hotspotPersonal Hotspot on iPhone refers to the process of sharing your smartphone’s internet connection with other devices (e.g. with your laptop or tablet).

On ASDA Mobile, tethering is permitted on all of their Pay As You Go bundles. This includes on the £10 Mega Christmas Bundle. Because of this, the Mega Christmas Bundle can be a great solution for getting your other devices connected on the move this Christmas. You can use the 20GB of data for keeping your family entertained, whether they’re using a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Many other low-cost Pay As You Go networks prohibit the use of tethering on their network. For more information, see our in-depth guide to tethering on UK mobile networks.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re switching to ASDA Mobile to take advantage of the Mega Christmas Bundle, it’s a straightforward process to keep an existing phone number from your old mobile network.

ASDA Mobile Website Christmas 2016To do so, you should start by ordering a free SIM card from the ASDA Mobile website. Once you’ve done that, contact your old mobile network and ask them for a PAC Code.

When you receive your new SIM card from ASDA Mobile, you should contact ASDA Mobile Customer Services to give them your PAC Code. You can do this by calling 2732 from your ASDA Mobile SIM card or 0800 952 0393 from any other phone.

After you provide your PAC Code to ASDA Mobile, it will normally take about one working day for your phone number to be moved over.

For a step-by-step guide on moving your phone number to ASDA Mobile, please select your current mobile network from the drop down menu below:

Hi, when i will use up all my data 20GB, can I renew it by purchasing another Christmas bundle? Kind regards,Andrejs.

    1. Ken replied:

      Hi Andrejs,
I don’t believe it’s possible to renew bundles early on ASDA Mobile, so it’s possible you’ll need to wait until the 30 days are over. You can buy the 20GB Christmas Bundle up until and on the 31st December 2016.

Hi Ken.. just wondering if you know how long this price will be for eg if I sign up now is it likely to go up to £15 or £20 during the year?

    1. Ken replied:

      Hi Derek,
Thanks for your comment. You can buy the £10 Mega Christmas Bundle until the 31st December (in this case, the offer would last until the end of January). After that, you’ll revert to ASDA Mobile’s standard bundles (unless they have a new offer on their bundles in the new year).

    Hello Ken

I love your website! I’m on the ASDA Mobile “Starter For 10” tariff which we keep as a glovebox standby.

Would topping up the £10 for this wipe out the Starter For 10? Thanks for any info.

    1. Ken replied:

      Hi Michael,
Thanks for your comment. That’s a very good question and I presume it shouldn’t – however, I haven’t checked definitively to find out what would happen. Saying that, you’re probably highly unlikely to need the “Starter for 10” bundle if you have a “£10 Christmas Bundle”. The Starter bundle includes 10 mins, 10 texts & 10MB whereas the Christmas bundle includes unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 20GB (that’s 20,000MB!) of data.
      Hope this helps,
      Ken
