In the UK, the Pixel Fold is now available for pre-order on the Carphone Warehouse. Available from £67 per month plus £249 upfront, it’s the first foldable device to be engineered by Google. What is the Pixel Fold?

The Pixel Fold is Google’s first foldable device. Imagine having a smartphone in your pocket that you can easily unfold to get a tablet-like experience. Add to that an impressive triple-lens rear camera system and Google’s Tensor G2 processor, and you have the Pixel Fold.

Here are the key things to know about the Pixel Fold:

  • You’ll get a 5.8-inch Pixel phone when the device is folded. When closed, the Pixel Fold looks and feels much like a regular smartphone. You’ll get a 5.8-inch display on the outside of the device, making use of OLED technology for clear and vibrant images. The display is FHD+ resolution (2092×1080 pixels, 408ppi). It also supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for super-smooth scrolling.
  • You can unfold the device to get a large 7.6-inch screen for multitasking & entertainment. Simply unfold the device and you’ll get a larger display for a tablet-like experience. For instance, you can watch videos and read books on the immersive 7.6-inch display. Alternatively, there’s a clever ‘Split Screen’ feature that allows you to have two apps side-by-side for enhanced productivity and multitasking on the Pixel Fold. The internal 7.6-inch display has a 6:5 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2208×1840 pixels (380ppi).
  • According to Google, the Pixel Fold has the most durable hinge of any foldable device. Google says the 180-degree hinge is rated for more than 200,000 opens and closes. To put that in perspective, it means you can open and close the device 100 times per day, every day, for more than 5 years.
  • The hinge can be used in table-top mode, tent-mode or tablet-mode. You can open the hinge part-way and use the Pixel Fold in table-top mode (a little bit like how you’d normally use a laptop). Alternatively, there’s a tent mode which is useful for astrophotography as it keeps your phone stable in one position for a long time. If you open the hinge fully, you’ll enter tablet-mode with the full 7.6-inch screen.
  • The Pixel Fold is the thinnest ever foldable device. According to Google, the Pixel Fold is just 5.8mm thick when unfolded and 12.1mm thick when folded. This means you can easily carry it around in a pocket. There’s also IPX8 water-resistance so the Pixel Fold is protected against accidental splashes and spills.

  • Google’s powerful Tensor G2 processor. The Pixel Fold is powered by Google’s custom-built Tensor G2 processor. It comes with built-in AI capabilities, enabling unique features like Rear Camera Selfie and Dual Screen translation. It’s also backed by 12GB of RAM, allowing you to run multiple apps at the same time on your screen.
  • Android 13 and the latest security features. The Pixel Fold has a Titan M2 security co-processor, helping to keep your phone and your data secure. You’ll also get five years of security updates for your device and there are features like VPN by Google One, automatic car crash detection and Google’s personal safety app.
  • All-day battery life with both wired & wireless charging. The Pixel Fold has 4,821mAh battery. According to Google, this should give you more than 24 hours battery life on one charge. You can also benefit from fast wired charging (up to 30W), along with Qi wireless charging.
  • Support for 5G technology. The Pixel Fold works on the latest 5G mobile networks here in the UK. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2.
