giffgaff has fixed its UK prices for 2022 to help out with the rising cost of living.

In the UK, giffgaff has announced that it will be fixing their UK prices for the rest of 2022, including all of their goodybags and Pay As You Go plans. This is in response to the rising cost of living, with inflation now running at a 20-year high.

In this article, we’ll look at giffgaff’s recent cost of living survey and how consumers are changing their behaviour based on prices rapidly going up. We’ll also look at giffgaff’s fixed-price goodybag plans and some of the other features you’ll get on giffgaff such as 5G coverage & speeds.

The Rising Cost Of Living

In the UK, inflation is currently running at a 20-year high with the cost of everything from food to energy rapidly going up.

According to giffgaff’s recent survey of 5,000 people from across the UK, 78% said the rising cost of living is affecting their stress levels.

Top of the list is the rapid rise in energy bills, with 94% of people saying they’re concerned about it. This is followed by the cost of food (91%), travel (80%), housing (79%) and broadband (75%).

Despite the increasing cost of living, there are certain non-negotiables that the nation isn’t planning to give up despite the rising costs. For instance, 46% of people said they wouldn’t compromise on socialising with friends and family. Meanwhile, 44% said they’ll continue donating money to charity and 28% said they’ll continue going on nights out.

Top of the list for cutting back on spend is making fewer car journeys and choosing to walk or cycle instead (35%). Another 33% of people said they’re planning to cut back on general savings and 28% said they’re planning to give up on international travel.

Golden Goodybags With More Data

On giffgaff, you’ll get the best value when you choose a golden goodybag plan. This gives you more data every month when you set your plan to recur.

To give an example, you can get 15GB of data on the £10 golden goodybag. This compares to the 12GB of data you’d get on the regular £10 goodybag.

To qualify for a golden goodybag plan, you’ll need to have a giffgaff SIM card and you’ll need to save your payment card details inside your giffgaff account. You’ll also need to set your golden goodybag to renew automatically (though you still have the option to turn this off at any time).

No Contract

All of giffgaff’s goodybag plans are available with no contract and no credit check. Because of this, you can use them on a flexible one-month rolling basis.

At the end of every month, you can decide to change your plan as required. For instance, you can upgrade to a plan with more data. Alternatively, you can downgrade to a cheaper plan to save money.

As the goodybag plans work on a pre-paid basis, it isn’t possible to run up unexpected charges outside of your allowance.

5G Coverage

All of giffgaff’s goodybag plans include access to 5G. On a 5G-ready phone, this will allow you to access download speeds that are five to ten times faster than 4G. You’ll also benefit from more network capacity and lower amounts of latency.

giffgaff’s 5G service is powered by O2 so you’ll be able to get a 5G signal in all of the same places where 5G is available on O2.

99% Population Coverage

When you’re using a giffgaff SIM card, you’ll have access to 99% population coverage across the UK. This is provided by O2’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

If you have a 5G-ready phone, you’ll also have access to O2’s 5G network. This is now available in many major UK towns and cities.

Before you sign up as a giffgaff member, it’s worth making sure you’re able to get coverage where you live. You can do this by entering your postcode on giffgaff’s online coverage map:

Refurbished Phones & giffgaff Recycle

According to giffgaff’s cost of living survey, more of us will be looking at buying refurbished tech products (29%) and taking advantage of trade-in offers (34%) this year.

If you’re looking to change your phone, there are two ways you can save some money and help the environment on giffgaff:

  • giffgaff sells refurbished mobile phones, allowing you to get an Apple or Samsung smartphone for much less than the price of a new phone. This also has a much lower environmental footprint than buying a new phone. You can also choose to pay for your refurbished phone over 24 months.
  • You can sell your old mobile phone to giffgaff recycle. They’ll give you money for your old handset and you’ll also be helping the environment by ensuring it’s put to good use. You can enter your model number or IMEI number on the giffgaff recycle website for an instant quote.

Keeping Your Phone Number

You can keep your current phone number when switching to giffgaff.

To do so, start by ordering your new SIM card from the giffgaff website. Once you’ve done that, you can ask your current mobile network to give you a PAC Code. You can get one through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once you’ve set up your new giffgaff SIM card, you’ll be able to submit the PAC Code online through a form on giffgaff’s website. This will schedule the transfer of your phone number, normally for the next working day as long as you submit it before 3pm.

For a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your phone number to giffgaff, please select your current mobile network from the drop-down menu below:
