Roaming on ASDA Mobile
If you’re travelling abroad to another country, international roaming allows you to stay connected on your phone. This is important for things like calling, messaging, browsing the web, using maps and navigation, as well as sharing holiday snaps with friends and checking in for your flights online.
If you’re an ASDA Mobile customer, you’ll be able to use your mobile phone abroad at no extra cost in 36 European destinations. This is in contrast to some of the other major UK networks, who charge up to £2 per day for using your phone in Europe.
On other networks, the £2 per day fee can add up very quickly. For instance, you’ll pay an extra £14 for a one-week trip to Europe (increasing to £28 for a two-week trip and £60 for a one-month trip). If there’s a couple of you travelling together, you’ll need to take this into account as well. For instance, a family of four would pay an extra £56 just to use their mobile phones for one week in Europe (increasing to £112 for two weeks and £240 for one month).
5G Roaming
If you’re using one of ASDA Mobile’s 5G-ready plans (available from £5 per month), you’ll also be able to access 5G speeds when you travel abroad.
ASDA Mobile’s 5G roaming service is available at no extra cost in Germany, Italy, Spain and the Republic of Ireland.
Places covered by ASDA’s 5G roaming include popular tourist hotspots like Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, Rome, Milan and Berlin. It means you’re able to stream and download at speeds around 5 to 10 times faster than 4G, whether you’re going away for a city break or the beach.

Fair Use Policy
From the 26th September 2022, ASDA Mobile has a fair usage policy of 5GB per month for European roaming on all of their plans. This is the maximum amount of data from your plan that you’ll be able to use at no extra cost when travelling to Europe.
For most people, the 5GB per month fair usage limit should more than cover the amount of data you’ll need on a trip abroad. According to Ofcom, the average UK mobile user consumes 4.5GB data per month (2021). This works out as approximately 1GB data per week.
Prior to the 26th September 2022, the fair usage limit for roaming in Europe was 25GB per month.

Other ASDA Mobile Features
No Contract & No Credit Check
All of ASDA Mobile’s plans are available on a one-month rolling basis, with no need to sign any contracts. This gives you a lot of flexibility to change your plan each month. For instance, you can upgrade to a plan with more data or you can downgrade to a cheaper plan to save money.
There’s also no credit check when you sign up for ASDA Mobile. As it’s a pre-paid product, there’s no chance of running up an unexpected large bill on ASDA Mobile. You can also give an ASDA Mobile SIM card to under-18s (e.g. for your children’s mobile phone).
4G & 5G Coverage From Vodafone
On ASDA Mobile, you’ll get access to 99% population coverage from Vodafone’s 2G, 3G and 4G network in the UK. In addition, you’ll have access to Vodafone’s 5G network when choosing a 5G-ready plan from £5 per month.
To check the coverage in your area, enter your postcode on the ASDA Mobile website:

Wi-Fi Calling & 4G Calling
If you’re using a compatible mobile phone, you’ll have access to Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling on ASDA Mobile.
Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive phone calls and text messages wherever there’s access to a Wi-Fi signal. It can keep you connected in places where a traditional mobile signal isn’t available (e.g. in more rural areas and inside buildings with thick walls). This is available without the need to download any separate apps onto your phone.
With 4G Calling (also known as VoLTE), you can enjoy better quality phone calls using a 4G connection on ASDA Mobile. You’ll also benefit from faster download speeds whilst you’re on a phone call, along with a more reliable connection.
Unlimited Data Plans
You can get an unlimited data plan from just £20 per month on ASDA Mobile.
With ASDA Mobile’s unlimited data plans, you’ll be able to use as much data as you like when you’re inside the UK. This means there’s no need to worry about running out of data mid-month, or incurring extra charges for going over your download limit.
There are three unlimited data plans you’re able to choose from on ASDA Mobile:
- The £20 Unlimited Value plan gives you download speeds up to 2Mbps. This is enough for most day-to-day usage such as browsing the web, using social media, listening to music online and watching standard-definition videos. However, you won’t be able to do things like streaming HD-quality video on this plan. Downloads may also take a long time.
- The £22 Unlimited Speedy plan gives you download speeds up to 10Mbps. This allows you to stream HD-quality video on your phone. You’ll also get a far better experience when downloading and sharing files on your phone.
- The £24 Unlimited Superfast plan gives you download speeds up to 150Mbps. This is perfect for streaming 4K ultra-HD video and downloading large files to your phone.
The following table shows ASDA Mobile’s unlimited data deals:
Network | Data | Monthly Cost | |
---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited data 2Mbps max speed | £20.00 per month No contract | See deal |
| Unlimited data 10Mbps max speed | £22.00 per month No contract | See deal |
| Unlimited data 150Mbps max speed | £24.00 per month No contract | See deal |
The 5GB per month fair usage policy for roaming in Europe applies as normal when you’re using an unlimited data plan on ASDA Mobile.
ASDA Mobile App
As an ASDA Mobile customer, you’ll be able to use the ASDA Mobile app to manage your account. This includes topping up your account with Pay As You Go credit, monitoring your usage of the service, and buying bundles or add-ons.
The ASDA Mobile app is available on the iPhone and on Android devices.
Keeping Your Phone Number
If you’re switching from another mobile network to ASDA Mobile, it’s a straightforward process keeping your current phone number.
Start by ordering your new plan on the ASDA Mobile website. Once you’ve done that, you can get a PAC Code from your old mobile network by texting PAC to 65075.
Once your ASDA Mobile SIM card has arrived in the post, you’ll be able to activate it and submit your PAC Code through your ASDA Mobile account. Alternatively, you can call ASDA Mobile’s customer service team on 2732 (0808 006 2732 if you’re calling from another mobile network). Once you’ve given the PAC Code to ASDA, your phone number transfer will normally take place on the next working day.
For a step-by-step guide on how to move your phone number to ASDA Mobile, please select your current mobile network from the drop down menu below:
For more information on transferring your phone number between networks, see our guide to using a PAC Code.

Hi Ken,
re Asda Mobile 3Gb Bundles. I have just bought one (on 30/06/23) & I called a french landline. I was told I have no credit (that is true) so I wasn’t connected. I understand that.
I read on the Asda Mobile website that “You can also use all your bundle allowance in numerous European destinations to call and text any UK mobile number in Europe as well as call any standard landline in Europe including back to the UK. You can also use the data included in your bundle at no extra cost.”
What that means to me is that I can use the Bundle I have bought to call a french landline number when I am in France using my Bundle ie I will be connected for no extra charge.
Is this correct in your opinion, & can any of your readers confirm this from personal experience?
Best wishes
