Lyca Mobile offers student SIM-only deals from £1.29/month. You’ll get lots of data & minutes for staying in touch with your friends.

If you’re a student, Lyca Mobile currently offers a range of SIM-only plans, starting from just £1.29 per month for 3 months. All of their plans give you unlimited UK minutes and an allowance of 5G data with change from a tenner, so you’ll have more money leftover from your student loan for everything else. There’s also no contract, no credit check, inclusive international calls and EU roaming at no extra cost.

In this article, we’ll look at Lyca Mobile’s student SIM-only deals. We’ll also look at the features available when you use Lyca Mobile as a student in the UK, and how you can keep your current phone number when you switch to Lyca Mobile.

Lyca Mobile Student Deals

With the rising cost of living in the UK, it’s never been more important to look closely at how you’re spending your money as a student.

One of the easiest ways to make your money go further is to get a SIM-only deal from Lyca Mobile. There are a range of plans available from just £1.29 per month for 3 months. You can even get an unlimited data plan for just £9.99 per month for 6 months, giving you limitless data, as well as change leftover from a tenner.

The following table shows Lyca Mobile’s best student SIM-only deals:

NetworkMinutesTextsDataMonthly Cost
for 3 months, then £5.90/month
for 3 months, then £5.90/month
for 3 months, then £8.50/month
for 3 months, then £7.90/month
for 3 months, then £11.25/month
for 6 months, then £25/month
for 12 months, then £25/month
for 6 months, then £20/month

On Lyca Mobile, you’ll benefit from an introductory price for between 3 months and 12 months, depending on the plan you choose.

For most students, we’d probably recommend Lyca Mobile’s 30GB plan. This is available for just £4.50 per month for the first three months (then £11.25 per month). This should give you plenty of data for browsing the web, messaging with friends, sharing on social media apps, and more.

If you’re downloading lots of things from the internet or watching lots of videos online, you can get unlimited data for £9.99. This deal also comes with a longer 6-month introductory price, so you can benefit from their low prices for longer.

Lyca Mobile Student Benefits

No Contract & No Credit Check

On Lyca Mobile, there’s no contract and no credit check required. Instead, you’ll just pay for your plan each month, in the same way you’d pay for other subscriptions such as Spotify and Netflix.

Because there’s no contract, you can easily change or cancel your Lyca Mobile plan at any time. That’s useful if you’re wanting to move to a plan with more data, or if you’re wanting to switch to a cheaper plan to save some money. You can also pause your Lyca Mobile plan (e.g. if you’re going home over the holidays), saving you money when you don’t need to use it.

Because there’s no credit check, you’ll also benefit from a hassle-free sign-up process. There’s no need to have a UK credit history, and no need to wait until you have a UK bank account. In fact, you can even pay for your plan using an international bank card, so it’s ready to go as soon as you arrive in the UK.

Simple Budgeting

Because all of Lyca Mobile’s plans work on a Pay As You Go basis, it’s easy to budget and to avoid unexpected charges on your phone bill.

By default, your monthly bill on Lyca Mobile is capped. If you’d like to use a service that isn’t included in your plan (e.g. premium-rate calling), you’ll first need to top-up your account with additional Pay As You Go credit.

You can use the Lyca Mobile app to track your mobile usage and spend. The app will show you how much you’re paying and how much data you’ve got left on your plan. You can also use the Lyca Mobile app to top-up your account with extra credit or to change your plan at any time.

Inclusive International Calls

If you’d like to stay in touch with friends and family from around the world, you’ll get an inclusive allowance of international minutes on most Lyca Mobile plans.

You can use your inclusive international minutes for calling both landline and mobile numbers in the following 38 destinations around the world:

You can access Lyca Mobile’s 5G network on both the iPhone and on Android devices. If you’re using an iPhone, you’ll need the iOS 16.4 update to use 5G.

EU Roaming

If you’re planning a trip to Europe during the school holidays, you’ll be able to use your mobile phone whilst you’re there at no extra cost. That’s because Lyca Mobile continues to offer inclusive European roaming, whereas many other networks now charge up to £2.29 extra per day. For a one-week trip to Europe, this can save you up to £16.

Lyca Mobile’s inclusive European roaming can be used in the following destinations:

  1. Austria
  2. Belgium
  3. Bulgaria
  4. Croatia
  5. Cyprus
  6. Czech Republic
  7. Denmark

  24. Poland
  25. Portugal
  26. Romania
  27. Slovenia
  28. Slovakia
  29. Spain
  30. Sweden

There’s a fair use limit on how much data you can use abroad in Europe each month. This depends on the plan you choose.

Lyca Mobile also offers a range of AloTurka plans that give you inclusive roaming in Turkey, along with EU destinations.

At present, Lyca Mobile is the only UK Pay As You Go network to offer eSIM support on their plans.

If you’re an international student coming to the UK, it can be really beneficial to use Lyca Mobile’s eSIM feature. That’s because many phones will allow you to use your Lyca Mobile eSIM, alongside your current SIM card from your home country. This includes the iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy S20, Google Pixel 3 and later versions of each device.

If you’re travelling to the UK with an iPhone 14 from the United States of America, you’ll also require a UK network with eSIM support.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you’re switching from another mobile network to Lyca Mobile in the UK, it’s easy to transfer your phone number.

Start by ordering your new SIM-only plan from the Lyca Mobile website. Once you’ve done this, you can get a PAC Code from your old network. This is available through your mobile network’s website or app, or by texting PAC to 65075.

Once you’ve activated your Lyca Mobile SIM card, you’ll be able to submit your PAC Code through this form on the Lyca Mobile website. Your phone number will then be moved over within 2 working days.
