Vodafone

On Vodafone, there’s a choice of three 5G unlimited data plans. Each of them provides you with access to Vodafone’s 5G coverage, but at a range of different download speeds:

  • Unlimited Lite (£22/month) has a maximum download speed of 2Mbps (roughly equivalent to the speed of a 3G connection). That’s enough for everyday browsing, social media and messaging. You can also watch online video in standard-definition (SD) quality. You won’t benefit from the faster download speeds available on 5G, but you’ll still benefit from more network capacity and lower amounts of latency.
  • Unlimited (£22/month) gives you a maximum download speed of 10Mbps. This is roughly equivalent to the speed of a regular 4G connection. It’ll allow you to do almost anything you’d want to do on your phone, including streaming HD-quality video (but not 4K ultra-HD). You won’t be able to access the fastest 5G speeds but you’ll still benefit from greater network capacity and reduced latency on 5G.
  • Unlimited Max (£26/month) gives you the ultimate 5G experience with unlimited data on Vodafone. With Unlimited Max, you can access uncapped download speeds on the Vodafone’s 5G network (up to 1,000Mbps, with an average download speed of 150-200Mbps when you’re connected to 5G). You’ll also get inclusive roaming in 81 destinations.

If you want the full 5G experience, you should choose the Unlimited Max plan to access uncapped 5G download speeds. Whilst the Unlimited Lite and Unlimited plans will give you access to 5G, you’ll only benefit from the increased network capacity and the lower amounts of latency.

On Vodafone, there are no fair usage limits for unlimited data in the UK. However, you’ll only be able to use up to 25GB of data abroad each month at no extra cost through Vodafone’s Global Roaming service.

  • Hi Ken

Could I in theory buy a Huawei H112-370 router and just use one of these sims with it in order to get a home 5G service? Is that allowed or would there be restrictions imposed if this was attempted? It seems like a cheaper way of getting 5G home broadband rather than signing up with EE, Vodafone or *spit* Three, so I imagine they have thought of a way to prevent you from doing this. I also just noticed today that Vodafone have raised the price of their Gigacube 5G service to an eye-watering £60/month for the unlimited data plan! Really need an alternative to the abysmal 5G home internet service I’ve been getting from Three but £60/month seems on the pricey side…

    • Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, you can simply get one of these SIM cards to use within the Huawei 5G CPE Pro if you like. The only thing to watch out for is the fair usage policies and limits on certain networks. For instance, EE says you can only tether to 12 devices at the same time on their unlimited data plans. O2 also prevents you from using their unlimited data SIM cards in a mains-powered device like the 5G CPE Pro. No word on how or whether these limits are enforced, but definitely something to watch out for. If you’re using a Vodafone Unlimited Max SIM card, this should work in the 5G CPE Pro without any issues.
      Ken
