What is Sky Q Lite?

In the UK, Sky Q Lite is an affordable way to get fibre broadband, together with TV on the Sky Q box. It comes with the “TV Essentials” subscription which gives you more than 200 free-to-air channels on the Sky Q box. This includes all of the BBC and ITV channels in HD, along with favourites such as Channel 4, Channel 5, E4, 5USA, Dave, Really, Drama, Challenge, Yesterday, Film4 and more.

When you sign up for Q Lite, you’ll get the Sky Q box included. Despite the ‘Q Lite’ name, you’re still getting the regular Sky Q box with the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV. There’s 1TB of built-in storage for your recordings, allowing you to save up to 500 hours of TV on the box. You can record up to three programmes at a time, whilst watching another one live. There’s also a handy Series Link feature for recording your favourite shows automatically.

Alongside that, you’ll be able to stream from your favourite apps on the Sky Q box such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, YouTube, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and more (you may need a separate subscription to access certain services like Netflix). You can also listen to music, radio and podcasts through the Spotify and BBC Sounds app on your Sky Q box.

Unlike the regular Sky Q plans, you won’t get access to more than 100 premium Sky TV channels. This means, for instance, you won’t have access to Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Witness, Discovery, Nat Geo and more. If you want access to these channels, you can upgrade to one of the following plans from £37 per month:

In particular, if you’re a Netflix customer, it could be worth upgrading to one of Sky’s plans that come with Netflix included. This will save you £6.99 per month on your Netflix subscription. You’ll currently pay £43 per month for Sky Q with Sky TV, Netflix and Superfast 35 broadband.

Superfast Broadband

You’ll get Sky’s Superfast 35 fibre broadband included when you take Sky Q Lite. This gives you average download speeds of 36Mbps and average upload speeds of 9Mbps. You’ll also get the Sky Hub router with a Speed Guarantee and a Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee.

If you like, there’s the option to upgrade your broadband connection to an average download speed of 59Mbps. You’ll pay £36 per month for this upgraded plan with Sky Q Lite and Superfast broadband.

Switching to Sky

If you’re currently using another broadband or TV provider, it’s easy switching your service to Sky.

Start by ordering Sky Q Lite online. When you place your order, you’ll be given the go-live date for your new service. An engineer visit will also be scheduled if one is required.

In most cases, Sky will automatically contact your old broadband provider to cancel the old service for you. However, this won’t be the case if you’re a Virgin Media customer – if so, you’ll need to contact them separately to cancel your old service.

For step-by-step instructions on how to change your provider to Sky, please select your current provider from the drop-down menu below:
