In the UK, it’s possible to watch the BT Sport channels on your TV, online and through a mobile application. A number of providers currently offer BT Sport as part of their package including EE, Plusnet, BT, Sky and Virgin Media.

In this article, we’ll compare the best value ways of getting access to BT Sport in the UK. We’ll start with an overview of the cheapest BT Sport deals and how you can watch the BT Sport channels on TV and on mobile. We’ll then look at what you’re able to get on each provider exactly so you can choose the best value BT Sport package.

BT Sport Deals

BT Sport TV Deals

For most people, the best value way of getting BT Sport on a television is getting it with an EE Pay Monthly SIM card or with fibre broadband from Plusnet. Both providers will allow you to watch BT Sport on a compatible smart TV or using Apple TV, Chromecast, PlayStation and Xbox (you can buy a Chromecast for £30 if you need a compatible device). You can also watch BT Sport on your mobile phone with both of these deals.

On EE, it’s currently possible to get a SIM card with 10GB data for £15/month. You can then add the BT Sport Monthly Pass for just £20/month (making it a total of £31/month for both). A range of SIM-only deals are available from EE, including EE’s unlimited data plan for £28/month.

Alternatively, you can get Plusnet’s fibre broadband from £25.99/month. You can then add BT Sport for an extra £15.69/month, making it a total of £41.68/month for fibre broadband and BT Sport. A range of special offers are available when joining Plusnet.

If you want to watch BT Sport through a set-top box, or if you want Sky Sports included within your package, you can choose from a range of plans that are currently available from BT, Sky and Virgin Media.

You can get the BT Sport mobile app when you get a SIM card from either BT Mobile or EE. The cheapest way is to get the BT Sport app is using a SIM card from BT Mobile, but you can also consider EE for a wider choice of SIM cards.

BT TV is BT’s flexible television service. With it, you’ll get a set-top box with the ability to pause and rewind more than 90 channels from Freeview, along with the channels on your BT TV subscription. You’ll also be able to store up to 300 hours of recordings on the box and you’ll be able to change the plan every month (e.g. removing sport and adding entertainment when the football season ends).

If you want access to BT Sport in high-definition and ultra-HD (4K quality), you’ll need to pay an extra £5/month for the BT TV HD & 4K add-on.

As an alternative to getting BT Sport on BT TV, it’s also possible to get BT Sport on your mobile phone with a BT Mobile SIM card. Simply add a BT Mobile SIM costing £15/month or more to your BT Broadband plan and you’ll get access to the BT Sport mobile app at no extra cost. This won’t allow you to cast or to watch on a larger screen but you’ll still be able to watch wherever you are using the BT Sport mobile application.

Sky TV

On Sky, it’s possible to get a television package with both the Sky Sports and BT Sport channels included from £67/month (plus a one-off set up fee of up to £20).

You’ll get a Sky Q set-top box through which to watch it all, along with access to more than 300 channels through a Sky TV dish. The Sky TV package also comes with entertainment and documentary channels including Sky Showcase, Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Discovery, Nat Geo and more.

You’ll also get the Sky Go app which allows you to start watching straight away on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. If you want to buy BT Sport as a standalone product without access to Sky Sports, it’s possible to get this for an extra £29.99 per month. The “BT Sport on Sky” package gives you access to the BT Sport channels in standard definition on your Sky Q box. You’ll get HD included for the first 3 months – then it’s an extra £6.50/month from the fourth month onwards (making a total of £36.49/month with HD). Because it’s incredibly expensive to get BT Sport in this way, we’d normally recommend taking it together as a combined package with Sky Sports on Sky TV instead.

Virgin Media

On Virgin Media, you’ll get access to the BT Sport channels when you subscribe to any Bigger Bundle plan from £39.50/month. This includes a Virgin TV 360 box and access to more than 190 channels including BT Sport in HD. You’ll also get the BT Sport Ultimate channel in 4K ultra-HD quality.

Virgin Media’s Bigger Bundle package includes their M250 Fibre Broadband service which has an average download speed of 264Mbps. You’ll get a home phone service included as well.

On Plusnet, it’s currently possible to get fibre broadband from £25.99/month. A range of special offers are available.

Once you’re signed up to Plusnet, you’ll be able to add the BT Sport app with inclusive casting for £15.69/month. This will allow you to watch BT Sport on your TV using Chromecast, Airplay, a compatible smart TV or consoles like an Xbox or Playstation. If you have Plusnet Broadband with Sky TV, it’s possible to get a discounted BT Sport subscription for your Sky TV box. It will cost an extra £15.69/month to get BT Sport in SD quality or an extra £18.31/month to get BT Sport in HD quality on your Sky TV box. In both cases, you’d still be better off using a smart TV or console, or casting to a compatible device (you can buy a Chromecast for just £30 if you don’t have one already).

Prior to January 2021, it was also possible to get a YouView TV box from Plusnet. Customers would pay £5/month for YouView and would receive BT Sport 1 for free. It would then cost an extra £15/month for the full BT Sport package in SD or £18/month for the full BT Sport package in HD. The YouView TV package is no longer available to new customers.

Other Broadband & TV Providers

If you have a TalkTalk TV box, it’s possible to get the BT Sport channels on TalkTalk TV for £29.99/month. On TalkTalk TV, the channels are only available in standard-definition. For this reason, and because of the high monthly price, we’d recommend getting the BT Sport Monthly Pass instead. This costs only £25/month and gives you casting in high-definition to a compatible Apple TV, Chromecast, smart TV or games console. Alternatively, you might be better off changing to a different broadband provider entirely.

If you’re a customer of a different broadband provider such as Hyperoptic, NOW Broadband, Shell Energy, Three Broadband or Vodafone Broadband, there aren’t currently any special deals available for you on BT Sport. Instead, you can look at changing your broadband provider or seeing if you’re able to get it through BT Mobile or EE. Alternatively, the BT Sport Monthly Pass is also available, allowing you to get BT Sport for £25/month.

BT Sport From Mobile Providers

BT Mobile

On BT Mobile, you’ll get inclusive access to the BT Sport app on your mobile phone when you choose a SIM card costing £20 per month or more (£15 per month if you’re a BT Broadband customer). You’ll get a SIM card with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and an allowance of 5G data, plus the ability to watch BT Sport wherever you are on your mobile phone.

For instance, the following SIM cards will give you inclusive access to the BT Sport app:

EE

On EE, you can choose from two different types of Pay Monthly plan:

  • EE Smart Plans (from £26 per month): If you choose an EE Smart plan, you’ll get a Smart Benefit included for the length of your contract. One of the options for your inclusive Smart Benefit is a subscription to the BT Sport app. You’ll also get 3 months of Large Screen Access included so you can watch BT Sport on your TV using AirPlay, Chromecast, a compatible smart TV or console. After the first 3 months, it will cost an extra £5/month to keep the ability to Large Screen Access (the ability to watch on your TV).
  • EE Essential Plans (from £15 per month): Alternatively, you can get an EE Essential plan from £15 per month. You can then add BT Sport with Large Screen Access for an extra £20/month (this is a one-month rolling add-on). Alternatively, EE offers the BT Sport Season Pass for a discounted price of £15/month (subject to a 10-month commitment).

BT Sport Monthly Pass

If you’re not able to get BT Sport through your broadband or mobile provider, you can buy the standalone BT Sport Monthly Pass for £25/month.

Available on a 30-day rolling contract, the Monthly Pass from BT allows you to watch BT Sport online and on your mobile phone. You can also cast the BT Sport channels to compatible devices including all of the following:

  • AirPlay
  • Android TV
  • Apple TV
  • Google Chromecast
  • NOW TV Smart Stick
  • PlayStation
  • Roku
  • Samsung Smart TV
  • Xbox One

You’ll get 4K streaming and HDR included as standard, providing your device is able to support it (see the table in the FAQ here for compatibility information).

Although the BT Sport Monthly Pass can give you lots of flexibility, it’s seldom the best value way of getting access to the BT Sport channels. Most people will be better off choosing one of the following options instead:

  • You can get an EE SIM card with 1GB data for £15 per month. You’ll then be able to get the BT Sport Monthly Pass for just £20/month (reduced to £15/month if you get the 10-month BT Sport Season Pass).
  • You can get fibre broadband from Plusnet with BT Sport and casting from £41.68 per month. This gives you a fibre broadband connection with unlimited downloads. Plusnet also offers a range of reward cards when you sign up for their fibre broadband plans.
  • You can get BT Sport on a BT TV box together with BT Broadband from £44.99 per month. Along with the BT Sport channels and BT’s fibre broadband service, you’ll get a clever BT TV box with the ability to pause and rewind live television.

The following table shows the key things to know about the BT Sport Monthly Pass:

How Can I Watch BT Sport?

There are four ways to watch BT Sport in the UK:

  1. Watch BT Sport on your television through casting, a compatible smart TV or games console. You can watch BT Sport on your television through casting (e.g. using Chromecast or Airplay) or using the large screen apps for Apple TV, Android TV, Samsung Smart TVs, PlayStation and Xbox. If you don’t currently have a device that’s compatible with this, we’d recommend buying a Chromecast for around £30.
  2. Watch BT Sport on your television through a set-top box. You can also watch the BT Sport channels through a set-top box that’s connected to your TV. At present, the BT Sport channels are available on BT TV, Sky TV and Virgin Media TV.
  3. Watch BT Sport online. You can watch BT Sport online on the official BT Sport website (e.g. using your laptop or PC).
  4. Watch BT Sport on your mobile phone. You can watch the BT Sport channels wherever you are using the BT Sport app for iPhone or Android. If you subscribe to BT Sport through Sky or Virgin Media, you’ll need to use their respective apps instead (Sky Go and Virgin TV Go).

In some cases, you might be able to watch BT Sport on the day you sign up, even though it can take a few weeks for your service to be fully set up. This is because you might get immediate access to BT Sport online or through the mobile application.

  • Hi ken
you would think the likes of BT sport & Sky would go back to the old ways of watching a game of your choice like last night man utd v real betis and charge one off price per game say £10 as people incomes are shrinking not everyone can afford to pay £30 or £67 per month for these contracts.
We use to be with EE and got the bt sport for £18 per month now we have looked into trying to renew for bt sport and the prices are well high tried every combination.

  • I just got the EE deal for £10, 10GB per month, thanks for making me aware of this, much appreciated.

I just tried to activate 3 free months of sport – Be aware, EE are NOT giving free sport anymore – the cost is reduced to £20 per month, but there is NO free Sport.

Please update your guide, as it now out of date.
    All the best

    • Hi Simon,
Thanks for letting me know! It looks like they’ve quietly pulled the BT Sport offer… I’ll update the article to reflect.
      Thanks again,
      Ken

  • Hi Ken,
    Thanks for the info.
I have Now TV Super Fibre, Freesat and watch all my catch up services/Sky Sports through Now TV/Netflix/Prime on my 4k Firestick and it all works wonderfully well.
Have I read it correctly that I cannot stream BT Sport on the Firestick ? I’d be pleased to add BT Sport but don’t want any more devices and just want to use the Firestick.
If true, why is this the case ?
    Richard
Ps Keep up the good work

    • Hi Richard,
Thanks for your comment. I believe the BT Sport app should be available on Amazon Fire TV. Simply go to the Amazon App Store and search for the “BT TV App”. That should give you what you need 🙂

The btsport app is a joke doesn’t work, downloaded it on both my mobile and tablet, and worked on neither on my phone just kept getting a message saying sorry there is an error at our end try again.
Then on my tablet i was just about to watch the game I’d been given permission for as a season ticket holder and had a message out if region called by sport number and they couldn’t help so missed the game

  • Hi,

Can you help me with something regarding EE – now the BT Sport App is available on TVs (i.e playstation & Now TV boxes) – if we were to sign up to EE BT Sport deal, would we be required to cast to the TV always from the phone or can we log into the app directly without casting?

    Thanks

    • Hi Nicky,
Thanks for your comment. I believe EE only gives you access to the BT Sport app on your mobile. You’ll need to add Big Screen Access if you want to use it on a PlayStation or Now TV box – this is £5/month if you have the Swappable Benefit or £15/month otherwise if you don’t.
      Ken

  • Hi, I have btsports and haven’t had a reduction in my monthly fee whilst there is no football or sport. There is a message on the telephone saying you are aware of the situation & that customers will be refunded accordingly but as yet there is no difference to my monthly premium. Sky tv have already re-immersed there customers. When are you doing the same.

    • Hi R99,
Sadly, not at the moment! It’s a great idea, however and something I’ll definitely take a look into for the future!
      Ken

  • Hi Ken

Can you add the BT Sport App to the flexible EE sim only contracts (I.e the pay as you go or rolling contracts)? Or does it need to be a 12 month contract?

    • Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your comment. Sadly, the BT Sport app is only available on Pay Monthly contracts – it isn’t available on EE Flex or Pay As You Go 🙁

    Hi Ken,
Regarding the BT sports app via BT mobile, does the access work for Smart TV BT Sports app as well, or is it only for mobile devices? I cannot set up a monthly pass on the app without an BT ID.
    Thanks

    • Hi Marcus,
Sadly, the BT Sport app on BT Mobile only allows you to watch from your mobile phone. It doesn’t include casting to other devices or access through other devices like your smart TV.
      Ken

    • Hi Andy,
Thanks for the feedback! Can you let me know where you saw this on the EE website? I just double checked this information now and it definitely says £10/month for BT Sport, and an additional £5/month to get casting as well.
      Thanks,
      Ken

    • Hi John,
Thanks for your comment. This is something you’ll need to check with BT Customer Support I’m afraid, as it probably relates to the price plan you’re on or other compatibility reasons.
Sorry I couldn’t be of my help!
