For instance, you might be looking for faster <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/download-speeds-2g-3g-and-4g-actual-meaning\">download speeds<\/a> elsewhere, you might be moving to another address or you might have found a better broadband deal from another provider.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, an early exit fee or early termination charge (ETC) will apply when you cancel your home broadband service in the UK. This will normally be the case if you had agreed to stay with your provider for a given amount of time (e.g. 12 months, 18 months or 24 months) and are now looking to cancel your service during the minimum commitment period.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, we&#8217;ll explain the cancellation process for home broadband in the UK, how you can cancel your broadband service and how much you&#8217;ll need to pay when you cancel. Simply order your broadband package from the new provider and they&#8217;ll arrange the cancellation of your old service for you. Both your old and new internet service providers (ISPs) will send you a letter in the post to confirm the switchover of your service.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you&#8217;re switching between broadband providers that use different physical networks<\/strong>, you&#8217;ll need to get in touch with your old provider to cancel your service. This won&#8217;t happen automatically.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you&#8217;re moving home or cancelling your service for any other reason<\/strong>, you&#8217;ll need to get in touch with your internet provider to cancel your broadband service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Providers using the Openreach network include <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/bt-broadband-review\">BT<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/ee-broadband-review\">EE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/john-lewis-broadband-review\">John Lewis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/now-broadband-review\">NOW Broadband<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/plusnet-broadband-review\">Plusnet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/shell-energy-broadband-review\">Shell Energy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/sky-broadband-review\">Sky<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/talktalk-broadband-review\">TalkTalk<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/vodafone-broadband-review\">Vodafone<\/a>. If you&#8217;re changing between these providers, it isn&#8217;t necessary to contact your old broadband provider first.<\/p>\n<p>Providers using a different physical network include <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/virgin-media-review\">Virgin Media<\/a> (which uses a cable-based network) and &#8216;altnet&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/index.php\/full-fibre-broadband\">full fibre broadband providers<\/a> such as Hyperoptic and Community Fibre. You&#8217;ll need to contact your old provider if you&#8217;re moving between any of these networks or an Openreach-powered service.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re inside the minimum term of your contract, an early exit fee may apply to your cancellation. However, you may still be charged for the 30 days notice that you give to end your contract.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, you might be able to cancel your broadband service without penalty. This is possible if you cancel your service within the initial 14-day cooling off period. This works out as being 82.5% of your remaining monthly charges. The following example calculations are given in <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/redir\/?go=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Ftermcharges\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-aff=\"BT Broadband\" data-ourl=\"http:\/\/www.bt.com\/termcharges\">BT&#8217;s price guide<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Contracts prior to 2nd February 2020 \u2013 you have a monthly plan for \u00a330 a month, with three months left. We multiply \u00a330 by three, totalling \u00a390, and take VAT off that figure, leaving it at \u00a375. Finally, we take 1% off that figure, making your final Early Termination Charges \u00a374.25.<\/li>\n<li>Contracts started after 2nd February 2020 including a discount \u2013 you have a monthly plan for \u00a345 a month, with six and a half months left. You also may a monthly recurring discount of \u00a310. We multiply \u00a335 (\u00a345 -\u00a310 discount) by six and a half, totalling \u00a3227.5 and take VAT off that figure, leaving it at \u00a3189.58. We take 1% off that figure, making your final Early Termination Charges \u00a3187.69.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you cancel your service outside the minimum initial term, only a 30-day Notice Period Charge will apply to your cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a BT Mobile SIM card attached to your BT account, different cancellation fees will apply for BT Mobile. This is because EE makes a reduction for VAT and any costs they save as a result of your cancellation (e.g. wholesale costs). They&#8217;ll then remove a further 4% as an early receipt discount:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>How do we calculate Early Cancellation Charges?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We add together all outstanding monthly (or other periodic) charges, excluding VAT. If you have a monthly recurring subscription discount we will take that into account<\/li>\n<li>We then reduce the charge to take account of any costs we save as a result of you leaving early, such as wholesale costs where applicable<\/li>\n<li>We then take off 4 per cent for early receipt<\/li>\n<li>Finally, we multiply this by the remainder of your minimum term to get the final cancellation charge<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The following example calculations are given in <a \/>\nWe take 4% for early repayment to get \u00a36.81<br \/>\nFinally we multiply this by the 2 months to get a cancellation charge of \u00a313.62<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example 2:<\/strong> you are on the Fibre Broadband plan at \u00a336 a month, with an \u00a311 monthly discount, and cancel with 6 months left in your minimum term;<br \/>\nWe remove VAT from your monthly charge of \u00a325 (\u00a336-\u00a311) to get \u00a320.83<br \/>\nThen we reduce the charge to take account of costs we save to get \u00a36.58<br \/>\nWe take 4% for early receipt to get \u00a36.32<br \/>\nFinally we multiply this by the 6 months to get a cancellation charge of \u00a337.92<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you have the old EE TV service, you&#8217;ll need to return your EE TV box within 30 days of cancelling your service (otherwise, a fee of \u00a3175 will be charged on your final bill).<\/p>\n<p>If your EE mobile phone is in receipt of a <a href=\"https:\/\/kenstechtips.com\/redir\/?go=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.ee.co.uk%2Fbroadband%2Fdata-boost\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-aff=\"EE Broadband\" data-ourl=\"https:\/\/shop.ee.co.uk\/broadband\/data-boost\">mobile data boost<\/a>, you&#8217;ll lose this when you cancel your EE home broadband service.<\/p>\n<p>You can cancel your EE home broadband service <a
